Nice place to work, poor management, patients and families great.
Patient Access Specialist I (Former Employee) –  Saint Paul, MNSeptember 20, 2017
A typical day is very busy with high patient volume. Employees not management are like family. Workplace culture is varied and interesting. Hardest part of the job is having management not listen to needs of employees who actually perform the daily work duties. The most enjoyable part of the job are the children and their families.
Pros
Patients, families and employees
Cons
Management, Human Resources

Gillette is an amazing place that helps so many people. However, it is a hard place to work at times. They have gone through so many changes in the past few years and not all good. Support from Managers is tough and supervisors are hard to talk too. But benefits are good and pay is good. Also the people that work there are a very special group of people.

They need to clean house in HR and Finance
Accounts Payable/Receivable Rep (Former Employee) –  Saint Paul, MNJuly 12, 2017
They tend to keep you on for years and then one day decide that they want to fire you. They did that with quite a few people at Gillette. They loved to hang on to people that didn't pull their weight around there. The only thing that Gillette does right is what they do for their patients. I advise anyone to never work in the HR or Finance Departments there.

Patient Access Specialist (Current Employee) –  Saint Paul, MNJune 9, 2017
Super fast paced busy clinic. (One patient after another with little down time) Register patients-Answer phone calls-admit inpatients-verify insurance-Answer emails-Send out text reminders-Pre register patients- Schedule multiple complex patients with multiple doctor appointments often needing overbooks and follow up to schedule an appointment. Works closely with Doctor and Nurses.
Pros
Amazing kids-amazing co workers
Cons
Management that always expects more, rarely listens to your suggestions and doesn't back their team

Watching kids grow up and becoming almost part of their family is the best part of my job. Some days can be extremely hectic and overwhelming but the patients make it all worth it.

Physician's Administrative Assistant (Current Employee) –  Saint Paul, MNApril 7, 2017
Great company where 90% of the people truly believe in the mission of helping kids. As health care changes, it's unfortunate that this company has become less family oriented and has had to focus more on the bottom line. Patients still come first (which is how it should be), but that means employees get the cuts.

The focus and accomplishments of nurses and doctors of Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare should be admired. I was part of an electronic medical record implementation and enjoyed my time during the project.

Administrative Assistant (Current Employee) –  St. Paul, MNJanuary 15, 2017
Poor management and terrible communication. Management and HR are not honest with employees about the changes coming and will say as little as possible and back peddle should anyone question anything. Compensation is below the area average for other hospitals. The company loves to talk about career advancement possibilities, but the truth is there is nowhere to grow. Think twice before applying and/or accepting a position here.
Pros
Flexibility, good care, good physicians
Cons
Poor management, poor compensation, employees are not appreciated.

Chaotic environment
Patient Access (Former Employee) –  Saint Paul, MNJanuary 3, 2017
My understanding is that they have recently had some significant changes as an organization. While the facility is very nice and clean, on an administrative level things seemed disorganized.

The department I was assigned to was severely understaffed with no set guidelines for my position. The workers seemed very stressed and strained. There was also some hostility between departments due to misunderstandings. Communication between departments did not seem to be regulated. Also, I basically felt like I was plopped into my job and then the supervisor seemed to forget about me or was too busy to check in.

It sounded like a great job on paper but in reality there was a lack of basic organization. Hopefully they'll be able to improve this.
Pros
Nice facility, great mission
Cons
The department was very disorganized and understaffed, little to no supervision or guidance

Gillette's mission makes working here easy.
Appointment Coordinator I (Current Employee) –  Saint Paul, MNNovember 10, 2016
Greeting patients in a warm welcoming atmosphere. Going through demographics completely, retaining insurance information and checking to make sure it is currently active. Resolving issues front line. Directing people to locations in the hospital where they will be seen. Everyday is a learning experience and seeing the children make strides is the best part of the job!
Pros
Seeing and supporting the needs of children daily. They make the job 100% worth it!
Cons
No breaks-only 30 minute unpaid lunch
