The position of Tax Senior is responsible for the review of individual inbound and outbound international assignee U.S. income tax returns, preparation of more advanced returns, as well as tax equalizations, completing assignment cost projections, conducting compensation reviews and thoughtful tax research and planning. Developing and supervising staff, assisting in client management and practice development activities are also required.
Core Job Responsibilities
Tax Consulting: Implement standard tax methods to provide clients with maximum tax benefits. Document all significant tax positions and deliverables. Assist in the development of client consulting project plans and provide support for completion of those projects. Review assignment tax projections and tax accruals for home and host countries. Plan and review year-end compensation reviews. Assist with development of client-specific assignment letters and tax equalization policies. Perform effective tax research.
Tax Compliance: Conduct detailed review on tax returns, prepare review notes and identify potential tax issues. Plan and supervise the tax process and procedures to be performed. Prepare and/or review work-papers and compensation sourcing including equity transactions.
Tax Controversy: Respond to tax notices; Assist audited clients before U.S. tax authorities.
Tax Specialization: Versed in U.S. individual federal and state income taxation and solid understanding of transfer year residency issues and elections, including foreign earned income and housing exclusions. Also versed in various tax reimbursement methodologies, tax treaties and country-specific tax minimization techniques. Working knowledge and practical application of income tax treaties and totalization agreements. Provide basic advice on U.S. payroll reporting for expatriate compensation, including hypothetical taxes. Conduct tax briefings with assignees.
Tax Related Software: Utilize CCH® tax preparation software, project work-stream, research and billing modules. BNA for tax projections and tax equalizations. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Reader and Writer.
Strategy Development: Assist in the analysis of global tax implications to identify alternative courses of actions to benefits clients.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Provide appropriate guidance and mentoring to more junior associates and interns on the team. Lead and direct team member activities to accomplish company goals.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, International Business, Human Resource Management, International Human Resource Manager or other related filed required
Advanced degree in Accounting or Tax preferred
Prior study abroad or international work experience highly valued
Two (2) to four (4) years of experience in individual income tax preparation
Expatriate tax experience preferred
Prior experience in a customer / professional services environment preferred
Actively pursuing CPA or Enrolled Agent certification, if seeking advancement in the firm
Fluent in written and spoken English, foreign languages highly desired
