Primary Process/Route Build Technician (Former Employee) –  Malta, NYJune 12, 2017
Interesting/somewhat difficult multicultural work environment, amazing cultural differences, but many language difficulties. Many people lacked knowledge of ISO 9001/14001.
Pros
State of the art industry.
Cons
Lack of education for work requirements

Principal CFM/DYE Engineer (Current Employee) –  Malta, NYJune 10, 2017
Over all benefits are good,
Individual contributors are manageable
Low level managers are ruining the company and productivity of the company. Upper managers blindly sign up for lower managers decisions
Pros
It looks exciting when you start the job, jobs are very challenging.
Cons
Not enough manufacturing, engineering, and management skills. You cannot survive incapable managers.

Sourcing Manager (Former Employee) –  Fishkill, NYJune 5, 2017
Culture clash between Chartered, AMD and IBM management philosophies that now make up Globalfoundries have splintered the corporate strategy. No formal Business Process to follow and to adhere to.

Poor management and unorganized
IT Analyst (Former Employee) –  Malta, NYJune 3, 2017
There was no training provided and no guidance or direction from management, team, or colleagues.

Everyone seems very stressed out and unhappy. No one will share important information regarding job functions, systems, etc. pertinent to performing job. It's as though everyone is in job protection mode.

Wouldn't recommend nor work there again.
Pros
some nice folks
Cons
Everything else especially management

Senior Engineer Field Applications (Current Employee) –  Austin, TXMay 26, 2017
While the company is truly global, the systems and business practices continue to remain awkwardly separate according to geographical location. Management is top heavy, with continued promises of improvements through the introduction of yet more "leadership." Change has become the norm for most senior employees, and little progress is made to streamline standards.
Pros
As always, co-workers!
Cons
Management.

Asian culture at its epitome
Engineer (Current Employee) –  Malta, NYMay 24, 2017
On a typical day, you get in at 7:45am, and spend hours together in meaningless meetings, only to realize at the end of the day that you have not done your actual work and spend 3 to 4 hours after 5pm finishing up the incomplete tasks. The work culture is a joke here. With predominantly Asian management, you end up having an Asian work culture, which puts you into a donkey work scenario with least payback. There is always no room for pay improvement or growth, as everyone is in line to get promoted. The company always has a bad performance, whereby you can expect almost 0 to negligibly small hike in your salary and bonus payouts.

The cafeteria is over priced for the quality of food served. There is no subsidy on the food, and the free coffee is worse than sewer water.

Engineering Technician, Materials Analysis (Former Employee) –  Malta, NYMay 12, 2017
I had a good experience working at GlobalFoundries, my department was one of the lucky few to have a competent manager and engineers who worked together without much trouble. Upper management seemed out of touch with most of the employees, but if you kept doing your job you were fine. The company had a hard time with employee retention and I think that was because of the stress put on employees to keep up with production demands.

I learned alot here as a technician , the managment is great and the workplace is great as well. The hardest part of the job is that you have to be really flexible on your schedule.

Company is still growing and with that is growing pains, both good and bad.
Equipment Maintenance Technician (Former Employee) –  Malta, NYApril 19, 2017
I have been working with Globalfoundries for nearly 2 years. The management varies from shift to shift. I was fortunate enough to get onto a good team that gels together well for the most part. We have a well rounded group of individual who have vast experience in the semiconductor industry and new ones to the industry. There are engineers who try hard to keep in contact with the equipment technicians who work on their toolset. Others are rarely heard from, others don't take any advice from the ET's who have years more experience on the toolset.
The need for better organization is still needed for pm parts, kits and repair parts for unscheduled down tools.
Motivation to take responsibility for ownership of work, tools, and equipment is lacking from many of the ET, PT and EE is prevalant.
I like the shift hours and so overall to me, this is a decent company as they are now turning a profit and rewarding their employees for it as well.
Pros
sponsor events for workers and their families, onsite workout room/gym, good pay for experienced workers, overtime is allowed
Cons
better organization needed; lack of accountability

People seem genuinely happy and have strong knowledge and experience in their roles. Overall there is a sense of optimism and willingness to collaborate, without too many Machiavellian attitudes that can be present in other Bay Area corps.

Automation Technician II (Former Employee) –  Malta, NYApril 16, 2017
Working with GLOBALFOUNDRIES opens doors to the semiconductor industry. However, working in a technician role the weight of your opinion in usually over looked.

Management/Engineering have countless meetings that usually don't accomplish anything. Problems seemed to be swept under the rug until it has to be dealt with - this does of course depend on which module your assigned to.-

Being a technician doesn't give the personnel much of anything personal professional advancement, i.e. self training, advance troubleshooting skills, no tool time for training, sitting and waiting instead of investigating issues.

Overall a good place to work, if you enjoy living a groundhog lifestyle at work. If you want to have any advancement and any chance at enjoying working at GLOBALFOUNDRIES consider making it your life.

Senior Member of Technical Staff (Current Employee) –  Hopewell Junction, NYApril 15, 2017
Company is trying to become top tear but still struggles with internal compartmentalization, which hinders communication and team work efficiency. Things improved over the past couple of years but the company will need other 5-10 year to fill the gaps, assuming that priorities and market will not limit the movement space.
Management is clear and helpful, typical day is a routine day, not much space for innovation but also that aspect is slowly improving.
Pros
They want to keep their people...
Cons
...but they are still unable to

Maintenance Tech (Current Employee) –  East Fishkill, NYApril 1, 2017
It is a good place to work for those who don't mind wearing clean room attire, don't mind standing for most of the 12 hour work day, and can deal with working on major holidays. Most of the people I worked with were very nice and helpful.
Pros
Pay & benefits very competitive
Cons
Long work days, physically demanding, working on holidays

Still offers little to no guidance on what they require for any kind of advancement. I have never worked somewhere that the management is so vague. Not to mention the NY taxes
