GF is great company to work for .
Fab Technician (Former Employee) –  Hopewell Junction, NYOctober 16, 2017
GF is a good company to work for . The business has been very slow and they had to layoff people for this reason. I will love to work for global foundries again if they need me again in case business picks up.
Pros
good benefits and salary

Wafer Fab Operator (Current Employee) –  Essex Junction, VTOctober 16, 2017
However, you are first hired as a long term supplement, but when they offer you a permanent position you have to go to nights. Even if first shift is short staffed.
Pros
Great benefits, good pay, paid lunches
Cons
Forced into nights

I've worked for Global for 2 years. Its an OK place to work, but there is not room for advancement. Culture was not appealing. There is no room for personal growth.

Not the worst
Process Engineer (Current Employee) –  Malta, NYOctober 11, 2017
GF is a decent place to work, still developing the workplace culture so it's all about your management. I enjoyed the first 2.5 years, then when I tried to advance to a more interesting role was delayed by several months. My favorite part is working with talented people from all over the world. Most people can work their desired hours and stay balanced with outside life. There's a lot of opportunity to learn new things if you have the energy to do so and a role that allows for that kind of head space.

Great technical environment
Lithography Equipment/Maintenance Technician (Current Employee) –  Fishkill, NYOctober 3, 2017
Weel organized daily meetings and scheduled work activities. The statistical analysis of WSPC charts was a very good learning tool in the semiconductor industry. Management is professional and courteous to employees thus encouraging a cooperative environment. The most difficult part of the job is the long night shift hours and difficult commute. The most enjoyable part of the job is the resolution of technical problems arising with Lithography equipment.

Tough and face paced work environment. If you are in a position of responsibility the work/life balance is hard to cope with. Benefits and pay are decent to good for the area.

Getting Better
Engineer (Current Employee) –  Malta, NYOctober 1, 2017
The culture at this company is improving. Poor chances of advancement. Management is MIA much of the time. Timelines are unrealistic. Albany is a nice place to live.

Potential is there, execution is lacking
Senior Process Engineer (Current Employee) –  Malta, NYSeptember 17, 2017
GF Fab 8 offers a great opportunity to work on cutting edge technology with many incredibly accomplished semiconductor engineers from all corners of the semiconductor industry. The problem lies with management and messaging. Employees are frequently motivated by rosy stories about how the business is doing, only to be told at review time that goals weren't met and raises would be nearly non-existent. In the day to day, engineers are encouraged to do whatever it takes to assign blame elsewhere for problems, rather than collaborate with other groups to produce positive results. There is also very little job differentiation between job levels despite large pay disparities.
Pros
Great benefits, great vacation time allowance, leading-edge technology
Cons
Blame-first culture, no clear trajectory forward, yearly raises less than inflation

Relaxed but easy to fall into a rut
Process Engineer (Former Employee) –  East Fishkill, NYSeptember 11, 2017
Hours are flexible, job environment is relaxed, and a large amount of PTO. There is also a lot of visibility to upper management, so "getting your name out there" in the company is easy. However, advancement is difficult and slow, and raises are nearly non-existent.

Maintenance Tech (Current Employee) –  Malta, NYSeptember 6, 2017
They bring you in with false promises of unlimited advancement within the company. But that is only if someone retires or quits. The raises are almost non existent. And the work is slow and tedious.
Pros
You can catch up on movies.
Cons
You will spend most of your 12 hour shift sitting around doing nothing.

Logistics Technician (Current Employee) –  Malta, NYSeptember 2, 2017
Get paid the same as other jobs that arent as busy or hazardous. Any problem you have just gets laughed at a pushed to the side in hopes you forget about it.
Pros
On site cafe and long weekends
Cons
Pay, management needs serious work

Long hours expected as the norm, not an exception working across multiple time zones. Executive level management out of touch with reality. Unrealistic expectations. Very toxic environment in certain organizations

Okay for a job but could use improvements.
Waferfab Technician (Current Employee) –  Essex Jct, VTAugust 31, 2017
Paid time off (vacation, sick time, floating holidays) can be accrued but there are limits. The sick time is there to use but they give a hard time if you do use it. Mandatory overtime for all areas not just the busy areas. The adopted motto is "Do more with less" meaning do more work per person because there are less people to work there. Recruitment is slow because they have stopped management directed time off so no extra time off can be earned. No more off site department meetings/dinners. The culture is basically "We want you there to work and you get time off because it's legally mandated." On the plus side you get insurances on day 1 and they're pretty decent. They tell us the pay is pretty competitive but they gauge that based on other microchip manufacturers in the area of which there are not many.

Advanced Module Engineering Technician II (Current Employee) –  Malta, NYAugust 25, 2017
Management is constantly shifting and it feels GF's future may be uncertain. Initial offerings were generous, but the company is doing very little to keep attrition down.

Senior Member of Technical Staff (Current Employee) –  Malta, NYAugust 21, 2017
Despite a huge investment made into this company, I don't think it will survive long because of poor management. The company is full of micro managers and managers who are unqualified.

Innovative but pessimistic workplace
Logic Design and Development Engineer (Current Employee) –  East Fishkill, NYJuly 31, 2017
The logic design department is within the small design division of a manufacturing company. Because of this, the department has an intrinsic feeling of being overlooked. Additionally, because of previous poor management, the engineers suffer from pessimistic outlooks on projects and developments. The employees are some of the best intellectually, but are skeptical of management decisions and policies. This leads to miscommunication and hardships.

The young employees of the company are a fun group however, organizing events outside of work hours to socialize, develop professionally, and assist the community.
Pros
Great benefits, fun group of young employees
