Cons: policies, no room for improvement, and head management.
Typical day at work; Clock in, get a register, clean up the front of the store (straighten racks, bins, and dust), throughout the day putting the fitting room clothes away. Sometimes i'll be in the donation center taking in donations while pricing and processing. Break every two hours (10min, 30min, 10min). Even though usually I won't take a 10min. – more... At the end of the day pull register then straighten the whole store for the next day.
I learned how to run a register. Also, alot more about customer service.
Store management is great. Their bosses however, have way to many rules for a place like Goodwill. You have sick time, but get written up if you use it. Can't leave the property on your 10min breaks. No smoking on breaks. Can't use your cell phone on your breaks. Pretty much can't do anything on your breaks. They don't listen to their employees (we give our complaints and they go in one ear and out the other).
Co-workers; some work just as hard if not more so than myself. Most don't even try and just do what they want to get by day to day. SO much drama too! That would also be the hardest part of the job. Can't stand when I'm working hard and others are playing or just complaining because something is "making their job harder".
Most enjoyable part of my job is the costumers. The regulars will always put a smile on your face and make your hard work worth it. Our store is known as the most organized Goodwill in the area and those of us who worked hard to make it that way take pride in that. It's the others that ruin it for us and that is why I'd like to find another job; somewhere I'm appreciated for all the hard work I do. Also, somewhere I can excel and have a chance to succeed. – less
