About Great American Lines
Great American Lines, a U.S. corporation, was formed in 1978 as a result of the forethought of two businessmen determined to promote trade between Japan and the United States. With a vehicle carriage contract and experience handling refrigerated cargoes, Great American Lines has successfully provided service to a major Japanese car manufacturing company – more... and the leading fresh produce communities in the U.S. and Japan on our first vessel (M/V Sunbelt Dixie) from 1978 to 2002 and thereafter on our second vessel (M/V Sunbelt Spirit) from the time she was built in 2002 until today. In February 1988, the "Sunbelt Dixie" was hailed as the symbol of two-way trade with Japan by a distinguished forum of international leaders of trade and industry who attended an International Two-Way Trade Conference in Tampa, Florida.
In more than 30 years of service, Great American Lines' vessels have carried hundreds of thousands of Toyota and Lexus vehicles from Japan to the U.S., several million cartons of citrus from Florida to Japan, and other cargoes as opportunities allowed. Considered by citrus shippers as symbolic of the citrus movement to Japan, GALI's first vessel, the "Sunbelt Dixie" recorded significant achievements as a leader amongst vehicle carriers (PCC's) in all measured categories. And the "Sunbelt Spirit" is continuing in that tradition.
