The lack of set schedules. I've been with greatclips for over 2 years now. Started as a new stylist and now salon manager. Having other priorities outside of work, it's difficult to keep a weekly routine. I went into management partially so I could help control my own schedule and because I care about the team and salon. I put my team first, and work extra so they can have set schedules according to their lives. It's hard finding new stylists.. out of 5 interviews I was supposed to have none showed up. I have pto but how am I supposed to take a week off when I'm lucky to have 2 days? My gm and owner market with beauty schools but in a year I've only had 1 beauty school student interested and she has been our receptionist for 6 months now. I have anxiety and depression that I cope with, but working too much, having an irregular schedule, getting called in on my days off or getting work texts all the time trigger me. Not to mention handling 15-30 clients a day. I am part actress, part therapist, part receptionist, part saleswoman, part tech, and full time stylist and manager. A lot of heads for one pair of shoulders. I also went into management to make more money, the stylist paycheck barely paid my bills. I'm not sure how single moms with kids make it off 12 an hour, and it's a taxing job physically when you're cutting at 2.5-3 cph most days. 3/6 of the girls at the salon have major issues physically and I have heard 2 of them saying they are short on rent this month. I have already helped one get a raise this year but my gm says they are all maxed out.

Currently working for a franchisee that does not care about it's employees. The pay scale is ridiculous. The compensation non existent. Some girls are making under minimum wage. And they wont put mats in because "it would ruin the aesthetics of the new floor." Absolutely worst owners I've ever worked for.
