Since 1905, Greenville Utilities has been an integral part of Greenville-Pitt County, growing and progressing along with our expanding service area. GUC provides electric, water, sewer and natural gas services to the City of Greenville and 75% of Pitt County. We serve a combined total of more than 135,800 customer connections. Greenville Utilities is owned by the citizens of Greenville but operates under a separate charter issued by the N.C. General Assembly.
The successful candidate will perform technical work maintaining water quality in the distribution system. Drives to sampling/flushing locations: coordinates with other plant managers and staff, locates sites to be sampled using maps and/or GPS and/or computer systems, plans daily activities, operates vehicle in a safe manner, physically locates sample sites using maps/GPS/computer, hand tools, whistle stick; determines levels of disinfectant present: prepares location for sampling/flushing by placing meters, valves and flow diversion equipment as required on hydrants and blowoffs, samples levels of disinfectant present at start of flow and periodically thereafter until acceptable levels are achieved, notifies Station 5 via radio of where and when sampling/flushing is occurring and when finished, minimizes any damage to surrounding areas; documents results: calculates and documents run times, flows and chemical results on field data sheets, transfers routine field documentation to computer files, turns in other non-routine documentation to lab supervisor, files routine field documents, ensure proper operation and repair of sampling stations, maintain weed and insect control at sampling stations, install and remove automatic hydrant flushers, maintain and repair free flowing taps, monitor and maintain acceptable disinfectant levels at automatic hydrant flushers and free flowing taps, assist with distribution investigative studies, provide spot flushing when required for water quality concern, participate as a standby member of the Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Team, and performs related work as required. Graduation from an accredited high school or G.E.D. is required.
