Web Designer/Developer I

Director, Managed Services Organization


GroundWork group (GWg) is a unique membership based non-profit in Columbus, Ohio with the
mission to strengthen the impact of nonprofit organizations by enhancing their ability to
manage their business operations and achieve their mission through sustainable and affordable
information management, education and technology solutions. Since 2006, GWg’s membership
has grown to nearly 200 nonprofits representing the arts, human services, mental health,
advocacy, education and environmental services. GWg currently has 15 employees.


The Web Designer/Developer I position is responsible for developing innovative, reusable Web-
based tools for GroundWork group customers. Our web developers work as part of an Agile
Team to produce quality web experiences that can be reused and re-purposed when possible.
We are looking for a self-starter who will be an energetic developer who takes initiative, enjoys
finding solutions to complex challenges, is detail-oriented, takes pride in their work, and enjoys
working with a team of professionals who are dedicated to making a difference in nonprofit


. Develop quality design concepts that will enhance a web visitor’s experience
. Convert raw images and proposed layouts into CSS/HTML themes
. Implement the design concepts by using standard HTML/CSS practices
. Creation of logos, banners and other imagery given varying levels of client input
. Work with Project Manager and other development team members to build and refine
graphic assets
. Develop innovative and reusable website tools
. Manage content in existing websites, Word Press and straight HTML/CSS
. Investigate and analyze emerging technologies that can be integrated into our toolkit
. Provide support during sales cycle by attending meetings and lending of expertise
. Perform requirements gathering and organizing as necessary
. Produce project estimates, including level of effort required in both points and hours
. Assist with developing detailed specification documents with clear deliverables and
. Work in an Agile Team environment to produce quality web experiences for nonprofit


. BS in computer science or a related field, or significant equivalent experience
. Minimum of 2 years experience in rapid web development, using HTML, CSS, Jquery
. Web programming experience using JavaScript, Java, JSP or PHP
. Working knowledge of SQL
. Proficiency in Photoshop, Fireworks, Creative Suite, or equivalent
. Some knowledge of Facebook / social media integration including Facebook / Twitter
app creation
. Experience using Word Press and general familiarity of the available plug-ins
. Strong focus on the User Interface
. Understanding of SEO strategies
. Strong communication skills
. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple timelines and complete tasks quickly and
within budget constraints
. A customer-centric focus
. Interest in learning about and leveraging emerging technologies


. Experience with Linux, Apache and Tomcat
. Familiarity with Authorize.Net payment processor
. Familiarity with the central Ohio community and organizations
