Love working with kids?
Recreational Leader (Former Employee), Northridge, CA –
Gymboree is such a fun place to spend your days, it didn't even feel like work! Working with kids, ages 1 through 3, helped me learn how to be patient and understanding. I had to multitask; working the phones to give information and make appointments, while supervising and entertaining the children. The worst part about this job was leaving! If you – more...  love kids, this is the perfect place for you. – less

The Worst
Assistant Manager (Former Employee), Lafayette, La –
Cons: management
Worst experience ever, like someone said no room for advancement. Very unorgainzed, not to mention district manager herself was nothing but a backstabber. They feed you a bunch of bull about room for advancement.I wouldn't recommend anyone to work for the company

Busy, fast paced environment.
Store Manager (Current Employee), Houston, TX –
Pros: discount on great clothing
Cons: not enough pay roll
Things are constantly changing in the retail world. A new promotion with different signs, a new set of mark-downs, or a change to the layout of the store with a new line. A constant flow of new merchandise or replinshment is coming into the store, and has to be processed within the 48hrs. I have learned the meaning of lengendary service, and putting – more...  the customer first. Managment is rocky, we have had a lot of turn over, but hopefully with the new changes there will be some stick-to-it. My co-workers are still in the learning phase, with having a new store manager and learning the correct way to do things. I have met some resistance from ones who feel they should have the store manager position, but all in all we are making it through. The hardest part of the job is being able to walk out at the end of the work day and leave work at work, and be able to go home and really focus on my family. I have so much to do, and so much on my plate with going into an underperforming store in all areas of business that I am daily working to fix, that it is hard to shut the work brain down. The most enjoyable part of the job is helping my customers find what they are looking for and knowing that they can leave happy and feel that they were the most important person in that store that day. – less

great company, bad management
Assistant Manager (Former Employee), Atlanta, GA –
The company as a whole is good. The chain of command gets lost when you have a problem with other members of management. reports of misconduct and unfair practices seem to get lost. some of the store managers a very rude to staff and tend to force employees out to bring in their associates.

Work 6+ hours at a time with no bathroom or meal break. Poor payoll matrix. Terrible work/ life balance. You are an employee number, not a person.

Sales Lead (Current Employee), Huntsville, AL –
Pros: 1 hour lunch breaks, strong customer relationships
Cons: no benefits for part-time, no room for advancement within company
A typical day at work consists of meeting new people and seeing familiar faces. Gymboree moves at a high pace on a day to day basis. The hardest part of the job is the fact that Gymboree does not promote from within like stated in interviews, basically what position you start out in might be the position you end your employment in.

Great product for children.
Store Manager (Former Employee), Orlando, FL –
Pros: customer relations.
Gymboree is a family oriented business that focuses on the trendy styles for today's children. I learned the ins and outs of running a successful store and helping the district to succeed. I enjoyed the close nit work environment of all my co-workers. The biggest challenge was working through employees who did not hold the same values as the company – more...  but I loved the relationships that were built with the customer. – less

Blah
Sales Associate (Current Employee), Friendswood, TX –
Pros: customers
Cons: management
Management is HORRIBLE. The pay is horrible and no advancement
Customers are great. The hardest part about the job is being talked to like a dog and wondering if your manager is talking about you behind your back. Nothing gets done by management team so its every man for himself.

Expect A Lot, Receive Little Payback
Sales Lead (Former Employee), Paramus, NJ –
Pros: team, customer interaction, discounts
Cons: low pay, no paid vacations, no healthcare
Ok, so I worked for this company for about two and a half years and I have to say, it's good if it's your first job. Being a sales associate is easy, you just have to work the registers and learn the product. However, becoming a Sales Lead, the company claims that you should only be the manager of sales, however, you're basically taking on the responsibilities – more...  of an Assistant Manager without the perks. – less

Just Say No!
Sales Lead (Current Employee), Tulsa, ok –
Although I love Gymboree and it's brands, this is not the company to work for if you are looking for growth. The Tulsa branch is very un-organized and the staff is constantly over worked causing a high turn over. To add to the mess the District Manager has little to know experience with working at store level.. Just say no!
