Great place to work to make $$ while in school but VERY stressful
Department Responsible (Former Employee), Scottsdale, Arizona – February 25, 2012
Pros: pay, gift cards, paid day off (birthdays and some holidays), schedule felxibility
Cons: rude customers, scheduled hours, demanding, can be stressful
I had this job when I was in my senior year in college. It was great because of the great starting pay. As a part-timer you got to choose your schedule of how many hours you wanted and what days/ shifts except you had to have open weekends. As a part-time you don't get health insurance or any other real benefits but you do get gift cards almost every – more... month when the store hit their goals. This is great cause you basically get free clothes every month which is great for a college student. The downside to this job is the work load/ pace/ stress. This is a VERY stressful atmosphere. Its all about being efficient - working fast with no mistakes. The customers are very rude because at H&M you don't give direct customer service. There are only 3 points of customer contact - The floor, The fitting room, and cash point. Its basically an Ikea for clothes. You are not required to make sales on the floor such as outfitting customers and trying to up-sale them with other merchandise. If anything you try to avoid customers on the floor because you are to busy working on other projects, trying to keep your department clean, or working on go backs. This makes customers very upset because it can be very overwhelming to shop at H&M without any help. If a customer asks you where something is you aren't required to stop what your doing and show them you can get away with just pointing them in the right direction. Also the hours are very demanding because of the random times the have you come in especially if you are part-time. As a part-timer you usually work 4 hour shifts, its rare to get 8 hours shifts those are left for the full-timers. You can come in at 6am-10am (which was my fav because you leave right when store opens),10am-2pm, 2pm-6pm, 6pm-10pm, 7pm-12/1am depending on the stores dirtiness. If you are a closer sometimes you can be stuck there till 1-2am cleaning up the store especially on the weekends when they are most busy. There goes your night time life. And then sometimes you get scheduled a clo-pen which is where you close one night and open the next morning. Basically I have had 4 hours in between my shifts when scheduled to clo-pen. leave at 2am and back at 6am. Not very fun at all. This job can be mentally and physically draining at times. Other than that this job was awesome and I made decent money as a college student working part time. – less

OK firm to work for.Kept busy and the time flies by.
Warehouse assistant (Former Employee), Winsford,Cheshire – February 24, 2013
Cons: the recruitment agency h&m use in winsford primetime recruitment are extremely unreliable
I worked at H&M warehouse in Winsford during 2012 through local employment agency Primetime Recruitment.I enjoyed working at H&M and would have accepted more work there had Primetime bothered to contact me.I was contacted one Sunday morning asking me if I could be in work in the next half hour - unfortunately this notice was a little late coming as – more... I wasn't even in the same town and as I don;t drive would have been impossible.I did offer to get into work a little later but was told not to bother. After I turned down this one shift I wasn't contacted again even though Primetime still advertised that staff were required at H&M.I contacted Primetime several times later and was always told the same thing-"we will contact you when we require you" - unfortunately the call never came. I would definitely work again at H&M but as long as they employ a new agency otherwise I don't think I would get the chance.
Thumbs up for H&M thumbs down for Primetime Recruitment - a real letdown who seem to want to keep you continually hanging by a thread. – less

good environment in work place
Sales Associates (Former Employee), kuwait kuwait city – October 25, 2012
Pros: good benefits
Cons: long hours of work
H&M is type of shop that you can say its a professional place to shop.usually we have hard time about the schedule of work.specially if there is a sale.because most people here in Kuwait they love to shop.i learned a lot of thing's while i am working in H&M as a sales associates.i enhance my skills being a costumer representative.about the management – more... of H&M i satisfied how they manage the shop and how they handle the staff and our co workers they are very cooperative and friendly in times of work or after working day.the hardest part of the job is how we can get along to the costumer to satisfied they needs and handling costumer complains.and the most enjoyable part of our jobs is when we satisfied our costumer and they have a smile in their face and when we achieve our monthly target sale. – less

Hard, sociable but very biased
Supervisor (Former Employee), Manchester – September 24, 2012
Pros: good pay, good routines, great name on cv
Cons: biased management, long hours
I worked for H&M for 4 and a half years, beginning part time as a student. After I went full time I was promoted to a supervisor, but that is where the progression stopped. The management team were very catty and it often felt like a popularity competition for management roles. I trained to be a department manager but never had any thorough or complete – more... training leaving me high and dry when my manager moved on. I moved companies, and am now getting my own store after a year of hard work. – less
