HHA Services, originally Hospital Housekeepers of America, was founded in 1974 by Daniel W. Bowen, Jr. in Detroit, MI. "Big Dan" had been a fixture in the fledgling hospital contract management industry for eleven years. In 1962, Dan was recruited from a sales career with ABC Radio to develop the newly created Hospital Division of Master Housekeepers Corporation. Dan grew this division to serve over 40 hospitals nationwide. He left Master's in 1973 when the company decided to focus solely on the automotive and heavy industry business segments.
Seeing a different future, Dan formed Hospital Housekeepers of America one year later. Dan's philosophy was to provide high quality housekeeping service with a personalized focus. Dan's vision became reality when the Sisters of St. Francis awarded him Holy Cross Hospital in Detroit. Both the Detroit Osteopathic Corporation and Crittenton Hospital in Detroit soon followed as clients.
"Big Dan" was all personality and had an entrepreneurial spirit. With the success of Hospital Housekeepers, Dan decided to diversify and founded Consolidated Building Services in 1982 to provide janitorial service to medical office buildings, clinics and commercial buildings. In 1983, Medical Pest Control was founded to provide pest control services to healthcare clients. By 1985, we had become one of the largest building service contractors in South East Michigan.
Paul Fayad was recruited by Dan in 1981 to be the Director of Housekeeping at Annapolis Hospital in Wayne, MI. Paul's talents allowed him to rise quickly from Account Manager, Regional Manager, General Manager, to Vice President of Operations within six years. Paul managed all three operating divisions and was instrumental in solidifying and transforming the firm.
In 1988, Daniel W. Bowen III joined the firm as Regional Director of Sales. Like his father, the business was in his blood and he sold his first account in five months, Edgewater Medical Center in Chicago, IL. Within the next two years, Dan expanded the business selling over 10 accounts in four states.
In 1990, the decision was made to become a national healthcare contract management company, and subsequently Consolidated Building and Medical Pest Control were sold. The firm was renamed HHA Services to better reflect our diversity of services. "Big Dan" retired and Paul Fayad was appointed President/CEO and became a partner and shareholder. Dan III was appointed Executive Vice President. Unfortunately, "Big Dan" passed away that same year.
Today, as we enter our 35th year, under second generation leadership and partnership, HHA Services has grown to be one of the nation's leading support service management companies. More importantly, we remain committed to Dan's original vision, providing high level personalized service one customer at a time. – less – More from ZoomInfo »
