About Halifax Regional Municipality
What is HRM 20/20? HRM 20/20 is a new process of public dialogue in which you, the citizens of Halifax Regional Municipality, can meet in small discussion groups to think and talk about the issues that will shape the future of our community. You will be asked to consider your dreams and vision for HRM 20 years from now.
Why do it? In this time of – more... shared fiscal concern, we face hard choices about our priorities. As citizens of HRM, we can all share in facing those choices and setting the priorities for our own community. Talking about the future and the kind of society we want is an important step toward building a stronger community.
Who is organizing it? The Metropolitan Halifax Chamber of Commerce recognized the need for a common vision and strategic direction for HRM. The Chamber provided leadership for discussions that began in 1999. The organizing committee has volunteers from HRM, the Chamber, Metro United Way, and other committed community organizations.
To guide the process, the committee determined that it would respect certain values: to be transparent, straightforward, and easy to understand; to be inclusive of all views and diverse in its reach; to be flexible; and to be focused on building from existing strengths.
Who should be involved? We encourage participation by community groups and organizations, by informal groups of friends, and by individual people. In short, any citizen of HRM who is interested in the future of the community.
How can I participate? You can participate in several ways: by attending community workshops, by visiting our website and filling out the workbook electronically, or by filling out a print workbook.
What do I have to do to prepare? If you wish to fill out the workbook on your own, just go through the questions at your own pace.
If you want to discuss the questions with, for example, a group of friends or co-workers, set a date and a meeting place. Use the workbook as your discussion guide.
How much time will I have to devote to the process? Individual discussion groups will take one to two hours to go through the questions. A person filling out the workbook alone could take more or less time.
What do I do with the completed workbook? Mail the workbook to the address on the back cover. Or you can drop it off at any branch of the Halifax Regional Library, including the bookmobile, or at any HRM Customer Service Centre (see back cover for locations). If you choose to participate by filling in the workbook on this web site, just press the "submit" button when you are finished. – less – More from ZoomInfo »
