Job opportunity that helped me gain a vast array of knowledge.
Department Retail Merchandiser (Former Employee), Hialeah, FL – May 23, 2013
Pros: flexible schedule, stable job.
Cons: low amount of hours (less than 15/week), short lunch, no healthcare, no benefits.
1. Typical day at work consisted of:
- Maintain Department Fully Stocked &Organized
- Perform Modular Change outs
- Build store displays
- Reorder Needed Merchandise
- Label Merchandise
- Offer excellent Customer service
-Supervise Assistant Co-workers
- Work with store Dept Manager and Managers on frequent occasions
- Perform departments Pay From Scan – more... Discards
- Maintain clean, attractive and well-zoned display fixtures
2. The hardest part of the job was the lack of hours a part time associate like myself received. Managing such a bid department by myself with 15 hours a week do to company cut-backs would get tough.
3. The most enjoyable part of this job was the opportunity to meet alot of new people from the chain of store I serviced (walmart). Also, testing my skills every day and being able to give my full potential on a daily basis.
4. As a retail merchandiser for hallmark, you are working unsupervised the majority of times. It was my responsibility to handle all changes or issues withing the department and communicate via phone with my manager. Personal communication with management was needed on a daily basis but with those of walmart, not hallmark. – less

A way cheer someone up
Sales consultant (Current Employee), Clinton Maryland – May 6, 2013
Pros: meeting a variety of people
Cons: low pay
I enjoy not only greeting customers. Small talk helps me learn about their needs. Guiding them to more relevant merchandise that they have not thought of or knew about. Co-workers work as a team in taking the extra steps to making them pleased with our products and service. Customers return with smiling faces and we actually laugh.

A challenging but rewarding environment
Keyholder (Former Employee), Wayne, NJ – May 2, 2013
Pros: great coworkers, easy commute, regular patrons, proximity to other stores and dining
Cons: parking during the holidays, no set schedule
A typical day at work involved customer service, sales, cash management and reporting. This gave me the opportunity to improve my active listening skills and my computer proficiency. My coworkers were easy to get along with and after a while, we learned how to work around ans with each other in sychronicity. The hardest part of the job was still offering – more... great customer service during the holidays. The most enjoyable part of the job was helping a person find the perfect card or gift. – less

Lead Keyholder (Former Employee), Greensboro, NC – April 26, 2013
Pros: great work environment
Cons: no insurance
I had a great time working for Hallmark. I like to interact with the customers. I would come in and get the store ready to be opened. Then I would spend the day helping customers with products. I would also laugh with my co-workers about new fun promotional products that would come out. The hardest part of the job was getting the displays set up just – more... right. The most enjoyable part of the job was the customers. I love to talk and sale customers product. – less

Customer Service Sales Associate (Former Employee), Nashua, NH – April 25, 2013
Not the most difficult job, but a fun one with fun customers and coworkers. The customer service and remembering all of the sales is the hardest part of the job. Coworkers were the most enjoyable part of the job.

Flexible schedule
Retail Merchandiser (Current Employee), Atascocita, TX – April 24, 2013
Pros: flexible schedule
Cons: poor performance from current territory assistant
I enjoy the fact that I have an extremely flexible schedule. However, they expect you to drive to each store, only one a day, and work for 2 to 3 hours a day, 5 days a week. The pay is not that great either. It is a fun job, considering the fact that you work alone, unsupervised. I just think that gas is too high to drive for only a few hours a day, – more... and 5 days a week leaves no time to work at another job. I'd rather condense it into a few days a week, longer hours a day, thus giving me either a free day or more free days to work at another job. And the manager sucks! She talks extremely too much when she is in your store, and forgets to do the things that she was suppose to do at my store because she was too busy telling me her entire schedule for the week. Definately would request a new Territory Assistant other than the one that is there right now. – less

Retail Order Processor (Current Employee), Liberty, MO – April 15, 2013
Pros: good company
Cons: no respect
My job is very focused on making sure work is getting done each and every day. There is no time for sitting and joking around. You must stay focus and get your job done before leaving the building.

Long hours, many perks, people will do anything to get ahead there
Surface Designer (Former Employee), Kansas City, Missouri – April 15, 2013
Pros: starbucks coffee shop, discount on products, many parties, good benefits
Cons: long hours, aggressive backstabbing co-workers, caters to young people.
I worked at the corporate headquarters in Kansas designing gift bags. I had a great first year there. Fun atmosphere, coffee shop, birthday parties and exciting projects.

Second year not so fun. My mother became ill and the art director and manager gave me a hard time about taking time off to see her. When I got back from my mother's funeral the art – more... director verbally harassed me in the bathroom. I went to HR to complain. After that art directer and manager gave me bad reviews. I was made out to be a (bad employee) on paper and I was fired. Later I found out other employees were let go due to downsizing.

Young kids out of college are treated the best there. Older people who have been there for 20 years or more are let go. Many employees there will do anything to succeed, Lie to get ahead, steal other designers work etc.

I felt steamrolled after that experience. – less

Like working in Oz - a fake fantasy
Creative (Former Employee), Kansas City, MO – April 14, 2013
Pros: beautiful campus and exposure to great training
Cons: poor and unstable business model and management
This should be one of the happiest places on earth to work, and it is at first. Yet you soon learn that advancement is dependent not upon achievement, dedication, or talent, but on things you cannot control -
attractiveness, youth, quirkiness. Advancement is like a reality show in which a certain look gets you favor; all others are made to grovel and – more... suck up, humiliated in hopes of gaining a chance to compete. Because production is based on a popularity contest rather than skill and tested consumer preference, the company is perpetually unstable, as is employment there. Hallmark layoffs have become legendary. Go for the experience and training - it looks good on a resume. – less
