Boddie-Noell Enterprises (BNE) is a hearty competitor in the fast-food business. The company is one of the largest franchise operators of Hardee's, a fast-food chain owned by CKE Restaurants, with about 340 locations in four southeastern states. BNE also operates 10 Moe's Southwest Grill quick-Mex units franchised from FOCUS Brands. In addition, the – more... company owns restaurant concepts such as the Café Carolina & Bakery and The Highway Diner. BNE is also involved in real estate development through BNE Land & Development. The family-owned company was started in 1962 by Carleton Noell and his nephews Nick and Mayo Boddie.
The company also owns the Texas Steakhouse & Saloon concept, but it is selling that operation to CB Holding, owner of Charlie Brown's Steakhouse. CB Holding is using the purchase to add nearly 20 Texas Steakhouse locations in three states to its existing portfolio of 20 steakhouse restaurants in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. There are currently 10 Texas Steakhouse locations in North Carolina, five in Virginia, and four in West Virginia.
