We worked hard, but enjoyed our group effort.
Co-Manager (Former Employee), Herndon, VA – June 17, 2013
A typical day at work was to check to see if store conditions were good, check to see if we had adequate staff to accommodate our customers, and then let the fun begin. The hardest part of my job was to meet our payroll projections and if sales were not as strong as anticipated,I had to make cuts in payroll to make it work. The most enjoyable part of my – more... job was hiring associates and assist them in growing in their career. It was very rewarding to watch associates advance and develop into productive workers. – less

Pros: benefits for pt workers and bonuses.
The main focus at Harris Teeter is our customers, so we take pride in providing quality goods and great customer service. The hardest part of the job is remembering all of the codes for produce. The most enjoyable part of the job is satisfying the customers and knowing that they are leaving happy.

Culinary Internship (Former Employee), Charlotte, NC – June 4, 2013
Pros: work schedule, friendly co-workers
Cons: unpaid internship
Interning at Harris Teeter was a fun environment to learn in. I was rotated to just about every station in the Fresh Foods Department. I went from the pizza department to the bakery department and on to the chef's case; main kitchen. I learned about baking pizzas and decorating cakes and other desserts. I learned how to prep and cook food for a big – more... buffet. My co-workers were always friendly and willing to help me out in what ever department I was in. – less

Home life not allowed
Assistant Customer Service Manager (Former Employee), Carolina, SC – May 24, 2013
Pros: two bonuses a year (for now)
Cons: breaks are non-existent, managers are misserable to work for (at the store i was at), hours are not condusive to family life.
I worked for ht for six years and at first it was a great company to work for, they really cared about their associates. After the economy crashed they cared more about labor and less about associates. A day at ht became full of pressure to help customers with next to no help, because they cut labor back so much. Co-workers were all in the dumps because – more... they were not nearly compensatied enough for what was expected. As a single mom I was given grief when I had a sick child at home. By far the best part of the job was meeting awesome customers who kept you going, because otherwise in this environment you would wanna give up everyday! – less

Cooperative work environment that required a fast past and hard work ethic.
Deli Clerk (Former Employee), Boone, NC – May 23, 2013
In my position at Harris Teeter, my primary responsibility was always giving the customer the best possible help I had to offer. Many times, this involved stepping out from behind the deli counter and speaking with them personally or walking them to a different department to find help. Being in the deli, slicing deli meats and cheeses was an important – more... aspect of this job. When I was not doing this or helping customers, there was always food preparation and cleaning to be done. Cleaning properly was essential in order to make sure the environment around food preparation was healthy. Management in this position was very personal. They spoke to us as individuals and cared about our lives and schedules. This created a pleasant work environment where other employees also respected and helped one another. – less

inconsiderate management team
Customr Service Associate (Current Employee), Charlotte NC – May 20, 2013
Pros: it's a paycheck
Cons: too many to list.
The Harris Teeter Food Store in Wilmington NC in the Long Leaf Hills Mall is managed by the most inconsiderate customer service agents and Operations Managers it defies description. To merely say that this bunch of uneducated, disrespectful and uncaring group of people lack common decency, is an understatement.

Do yourself a favor, find a different – more... company to work for, any company. Sell you blood before you take a job at THIS specific Harris Teeter. – less

The atmosphere was kind of bipolar
Cashier (Current Employee), Raleigh NC – May 19, 2013
Pros: great customers
Cons: short breaks, terrible managers
Working at the Harris Teeter at north hills I thought would be fun but I thought wrong. The managers are terrible. They do not care about their customers nor their employees. You have to treat your employees right in order for them to stay their and work. Since they switched managers it has went Down hill. When you call for the managers help they take – more... their precious time. And when it comes to hours they could care less if you even work. I'm not trying to bash that store but they need to get it together before they loose every employee. The breaks are ridiculously short and they will give you your break after 1 hour of being their and you have to stand up for another 5. I just don't know what it will take for them to get it together. – less

assistant customer service manager (Former Employee), raleigh nc – May 17, 2013
Pros: meeting great people fulfilling customer needs.
Cons: oppertunity to move up was rare
I really enjoyed my team at Harris teeter as well as the customers. It was a great opportunity and experience. A typical day at work would be overseeing a team of 20+ and taking customer questions as well as complaints over the phone and in person. The hardest part of the job was getting a mentor to direct me in the right path of moving up.
