Grant funded Special Education Teacher
Special Education Teacher (Former Employee), Hartford, CTJanuary 27, 2014
Pros: great staff and kids
Cons: commute
I worked at the elementary school. The staff and teachers were awesome to work with, students were a bit to get used to (the upper elementary kids could be difficult with attitudes) and management was good when I was there. I wanted to stay but there was no permanent positions. The pay was good. Hartford always pays more due to the city. I loved working – more... with the kids and other teachers. The commute in to Hartford was horrible but worth it. – less

Pros: free lunch
Cons: no healthcare
In charge of keeping the activities on schedule and to keep the remaining mentors on task. Helped out children with homework and talk to them about their problems, if needed counseling.

Summer Camp: teaching swimming lessons and taking care of first aid.

As the head counselor I was in charge of 12 five to six years old with the help of 2 new counselors – more... in training that would report to me daily. – less

Great place to work
Teacher (Former Employee), Hartford, CTSeptember 4, 2012
Pros: positive work environment with colleagues and pay and benefits were spectacular
Cons: job insecurity. many layoffs
The most enjoyable part of my job was seeing students learn and grow both academically and emotionally. I was blessed to have a wonderful group of students who were very respectful and enjoyed learning. I liked going to work everyday to see them all.

Fulfilling and fun place to work
Paraprofessional (Former Employee), Hartford, CTAugust 23, 2012
Pros: vacation days whenever school was out and early dismissals ever so often.
A typical day at work would start off by greeting the students as they came in and got settled into their homeroom classrooms. Once my student came to school, I just sat along side him to talk and answer any questions. He spoke mostly Spanish and understood very little English. I made sure he understood what his obligations were for the day in each – more... class and helped him with assignments. The teachers were all so kind and grateful to have me present. My students efforts improved tremendously. They all said that it showed in his work and grades. – less
