Non-profit multi-specialty Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates wants to be in the forefront of health care in Boston and surrounding regions. The 630-physician (and 1,000 other healthcare professionals) medical group operates more than 20 offices throughout eastern Massachusetts, providing primary and specialty medical care to some 495,000 adult and pediatric patients. For acute health care services, Harvard Vanguard patients have access to more than a dozen hospitals, including Beth Israel-Deaconess Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital. Harvard Vanguard is a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School. It is also a member of Atrius Health, a not-for-profit association of Massachusetts medical groups.
The group practices of Atrius Health include five other Massachusetts-based medical practice management companies -- Dedham Medical Associates, Granite Medical Group, Reliant Medical Group, South Shore Medical Center, and Southboro Medical Group. The companies work together to coordinate care in a number of ways, including sharing an electronic medical records system.
Harvard Vanguard has four locations in the city Of Boston, 17 in Greater Boston, and three administrative offices in Newton and Needham.
Harvard Vanguard was formed by physicians and health care providers from insurers Harvard Community Health Plan and Harvard Pilgrim in 1997.
