Hawthorne is a South Carolina corporation chartered in 1932. The company was originally formed with the intent of conducting business as a fixed base (civilian airport fuels service) operation on the Charleston Municipal Airport . These years have seen a one airplane company operating from a small shack on a grass runway airport grow into a nationally known technical service contracting company with operations across much of the United States.
The year 1941 marked Hawthorne's entry into the field of government contracting when the company was contracted to furnish primary flight training for the U.S. Army Air Corps. That contract was the first of many and today government contracting is Hawthorne's core business. Hawthorne has had a contract with the Federal government - and has been pumping fuel into aircraft - on a continuous basis since 1941.
During the 60's and 70's, Hawthorne continued to expand its activities in the general aviation industry. The company flew commercial aircraft, sold aircraft from its Piper dealership, serviced aircraft and operated fixed base support services at several airports. In addition, Hawthorne maintained its contact with the Department of Defense through several technical service contracts.
The late 70's and 80's saw the company expanding its diversified government service business with aviation, maintenance and base operations activities across the United States. Hawthorne grew beyond its small business categories into a major government contracting company.
The late 80's and 90's witnessed significant growth in the development of Hawthorne's civilian Fixed Base Operations. In fact, this business segment soon surpassed all other company activities in terms of revenues and energy expended. A major facility was constructed at Washington Dulles International Airport which joined other operations in Florida, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Georgia, Rhode Island and elsewhere.
In the late 90's, Hawthorne sold its civilian FBO business in a transaction that resulted in the Landmark Aviation company of today. Landmark is one of the largest aviation fuel service companies in the world. Hawthorne Services, Inc. is now a separate Company, wholly owned through a partnership located in Charleston.
Today, Hawthorne provides aviation fuel services and facility support services to governments by contract. The executive staff encompasses experience that stretches almost to the very beginning of Hawthorne's long and successful history. – less – More from ZoomInfo »
