Headway Technologies is making progress in the disk drive market. The company designs and manufactures recording heads for computer disk drives, including giant magnetoresistive heads, the industry's current standard. Headway's products are used in disk drives for PCs, portable computers, and computer servers. They are sold in the form of sliced wafer rows (sliders), sliders attached to steel suspensions (head gimbal assemblies), and ceramic wafers. Headway's customers include disk drive manufacturers Fujitsu, Hitachi, Seagate, and Toshiba. The company is a subsidiary of TDK.
The company was formed in 1994 through a partnership among Asahi Glass, Hewlett-Packard, and Komag. After withdrawing its IPO in late 1999, Headway was acquired by TDK's SAE Magnetics subsidiary in 2000. – less
