Daily challenge in a high risk environment, insuring the safety of the Customers.
Leak Survey Technician (Former Employee), Oklahoma City – May 13, 2013
Pros: company vehicle, freedom from direct supervision.
Cons: outdated leak detection equipment issued, mandated weekend overtime, dangerous work environment
Using sensitive equipment, finding and walking along Natural gas pipelines throughout the western half of Oklahoma. We worked in high traffic business areas, residential neighborhoods, and desolate cross country areas. It was a physically challenging position, with no direct supervision. The people I worked with were all good, and dedicated employees, – more... that were very committed to public safety in the Natural Gas industry. The position required near superhuman physical stamina, and effort, as well as quick thinking in dangerous locations. The rewards for these efforts included a company vehicle, and the great opportunity to meet and interact with the public. – less

PM Top Rated Manure Spreader
Leak Survey (Current Employee), Troy, Ohio – March 6, 2013
Pros: the guys you work with
Cons: pm & office secretary
I have been with Heath for over three years & currently work out of the Troy, Ohio area.

You can work hard & do everything asked of you & you will get a very very very low raise. One Technician got a TWO CENT raise and a few others only FIVE CENTS it all depends on if the Project Manager likes you or not.

The Office Secretary really runs our Project – more... Manager she wants TOTAL CONTROL over everything & because she wants us to drive to the office every single morning just to check our paperwork for three minutes not caring if you live thirty miles away we all have to do it. She would be better suited scrubbing toilets at a Motel 6 on third shift.

They treat us like we are five year old's needing constant checking up on.

The Project Manager does not know how to manage so he FORCES some of us to live in Indiana during the week & be away from our families in order to stay employed. He also expects you to walk eight hours out of nine hours per day and he will give you thirty minutes to do paperwork. His previous job was spreading manure at a country club for $9 bucks an hour need I say more.

Most of the employees on our crew are currently looking for employment elsewhere. – less

Great company if you love walking
Gas meter auditor (Former Employee), Greensburg, PA – February 14, 2013
Pros: determine my own route on days that i knew where i was
Cons: using my own vehicle and extreme walking not many breaks
Heath was a good company to work for but the fact I needed to use my own vehicle and sometimes had to drive my car into the woods, I did not like that. The rest of the times I would have to walk a total of 10 to 15 miles a day. It was very rough on my knees. The management was very hard to reach at times.

Barnum & Bailey
Inside Leak Survey Technician (Current Employee), Troy, Ohio – January 31, 2013
Pros: guys on crew are great
Cons: project manager is a cut-throat
The job is inspecting natural gas lines inside & outside of buildings.

If you want a job where they start you out at $11 per hour & you stay around that much for years you will love Heath in Troy, Ohio.

The Project Manager is a Circus Clown who once told us in a meeting full of employees that we are not a "union" & he could do as he pleased. He has – more... no consideration for how he treats people mainly the men if you are a female you can fail a drug test & he will promote you to a Crew Leader. Daffy Duck could do a better job. The Project Manager only cares about CA$H & his big bonu$ that he gets at the end of the year on the work we all do. He would BETRAY his own family to keep his *temporary* kingdom.

You use your OWN vehicle & they will not care if you have to drive 200 miles per day to get the number$ they want. You are the $LAVE they are the MA$TER.

You will be laid off around October because the faster they can get you to complete the work the more money the CORP-oration make$

The Office Secretary BETRAYED her own sister who works with us by having her friend be the LAST one to be laid off last year & that same friend was also the FIRST to be brought back this year while her sister who has worked with us for years is still on layoff.

The PM & The Office Secretary are two PEAS in a POD! – less

productive and fun place to work
technician (Current Employee), ohio – January 28, 2013
Pros: everything, if you like saving lives you'll like this
Cons: sometimes they hire people that dont do their job correctly and have to be terminated
All they ask is for you to do your job the correct way and to be open and honest.

Productive and fun! Riiiiight. The only thing fun was working by yourself. Dealing with office was ALWAYs pain in a...s. The entire office communication revolves around how are the numbers today--how much--and why not more. And god help you if snow-or rain-or backyard locked gates-dogs or illness slows you down for the day. You go from being a fine employee to being a slacker in their view on a day-to-day basis. This comment sounds like a mgnt puff piece to offset the reality of other reviews.

Corleone – January 31, 2013

This is what a review looks like when The Project Manager is the one really doing it LOL - or The Office Secretary is pulling his strings to get him to type on a keyboard. . . What a class act!

Average paying job-poor office support-micromgnt-advertised as year long job actually around 9 mo then only get called back if they "like" or not.
former employee (Former Employee), dayton oh – January 23, 2013
Former employee now working with a much better employer that appreciates and respects the dedication to the job.

Good average paying job with 2-4 yr lifespan for someone who likes to work outdoors walking.

Although Heath has employee handbook, no attention is paid to employee relations respecting corrective behavior for employees.

Corrective steps – more... jump over verbal warnings to termination depending on the whim of the PM and or office mgr and whether they like u or not.
Morale is always low due to God complex from office.

Little mgt training is given to PM and the corp concern is always daily financial numbers period not employees welfare. It is always get the numbers they want and CYA.

Dayton project mgr and office mgr very caprious and conniving and operates with tyranical style-a real little Napolian. If you find yourself on either the PM or office manager bad side u may as well start looking for another job. They will micromanage u to death, wait for a paperwork error or some other thing and u will be out the door, no matter how good a worker u actually are.

One former employee was written up on safety violation for....shoelace untied. He was also berated for exiting his vehicle with hardhat in hand before putting in on his head. He was told he should have got out of car already wearing it. And so on. Nothing was ever right--or good enough. He was finally ran off under false pretenses by pm. Get the picture?

That being said, if u like working by yourself and can make your own good field judgements the job itself is not bad.

Just a shame the office operates as it does.

I jumped at the chance to leave. – less

Office Secretary is The Puppet Master - The PM is The Puppet and he will put a knife in your back
Crew Leader (Former Employee), Dayton, Ohio – January 19, 2013
Pros: most of the people that you work with are great, but not the pm nor the office secretary be leary of both
Cons: management has no loyalty to you if it benefits them to get rid of you they will
I was with Heath for almost five years - missed one day of work - was the highest paid technician there & the crew leader - never had one write up - made some mistakes on paperwork that had to do with corossion on meters and was let go -

If you like to work where the office secretary controls the project manager and where you are micromanaged you will – more... love Heath Consultants in Troy Ohio

They will also tell you that it is year round work but it is more like nine months then they force you to either travel to other states to work or resign - or they will tell you that you will be working in Dayton and the surrounding areas & then force you to travel to Indiana and work there during the week. – less

Might work for you might not
meter reader (Former Employee), gibsonia – October 1, 2012
Pros: freedom, take your breaks when you want
Cons: use own vehicle, low wages
i worked for this division and i can tell what exactly to expect. If you like to walk 3-5 miles a day in all types of weather its not a bad job. You can usually get done early once you learn your routes. You work by yourself so you have alot of freedom which is great. It also can be a foot in the door to get hired by the gas company. The problem with – more... this job is that you have to use your own car. They give you gas money but the wear and tear on your car doesn't make it worth it. It would be idea if you have a old beater car you can use. Trust me its hard to keep your car clean getting in and out 100 times a day when your walking through snow, mud, ect. The pay is low and dont' expect to get any good raises. One year i got a 7 cent raise. The benefits are ok but nothing special. They do have a pretty good 401 k though. There is room for advancement but it would probably require you to relocate. One nice thing is you get first crack at jobs that go up before outsiders do. Most of the co workers and management are good people. at least around pitsburgh. Its not a bad job if your out of work or working for less than 10 an hour...but making a living off of 20,000 a year is tough. but i guess in this economy some people would love to make that. working in altoona it will be a very laid back job....much better than working in the city. – less

Gas Leak Surveyor/Field Tech (Former Employee), Richmond, VA – August 18, 2012
Pros: gas allowance
Cons: opportunity for advancement
A typical day was covering all assigned areas, I knew my job very well. This particular division only consisted of a crew of (4) guys. Of the personnel employed there now I trained (3) of the (4). I can't say that there was a hard part of the job, it was engaging and I enjoyed it.

unorganized more often than not
field tech (Former Employee), Houston, TX – June 15, 2012
Pros: great coworkers, good knowledge and introduction into the natural gas industry
Cons: unorganized, low compensation, lack of training
The coporate aspect of the company is great, they make it a point to award and recognize great work ethics. But the smaller division 43 is very unorganized as for as mangement and daily activities go. They don't offer any job security and in this division. They don't make an effort to acknowledge good work ethics here. Raises are not given as they instruct – more... new hires they are when ffirst being hired on the yearly raise and review schedule either. – less

Used to be a productive place to work
Utility Locate Tech (Former Employee), Houston, TX – May 16, 2012
Pros: good equipment
Cons: no raises, hostile work enviroment, high expectations no support from management.
Used to be a good an productive work place, new management has made it so the locators in the field are paranoid with regard to production an damages. And as a result has made work slower and as a result you get behind in tickets, but they don't want to hear that..

Pros: i had a great boss, and i liked working with the customers
Cons: the liability with the scope of the job
I worked at Heath Consultants at 2 different times in 2 different positions. I have located natural gas and electric lines and also safety inspected natural gas pipe/line while with the company. I was given very extensive training in both area so that i could work on my own independly and be qualified. I enjoyed my jobs and the management and myself – more... got along great. I was a valued employee. No problems with co-workers . Over all the best company i have worked for. If i had'nt had to move out of state I would still be with Heath. – less
