Helix Electric has coiled itself around the electrical contracting business in the Southwest. One of the largest electrical contractors in the US, the company focuses on design/build, engineering, and installation projects. Helix Electric's services include electrical, fiber optic cable, energy management system, emergency power system, electric fence, and voltage substation and distribution system installation. The company has offices in Arizona, California, Nevada, Texas, and Guam. It has a portfolio of public and private projects, including jobs at airports, civic centers, hospitals, prisons, senior living centers, casinos, hotels, water treatment plants, and movie theaters.

Helix Electric was founded in 1985 by Russian immigrant Gary Shekhter. The company is eyeing geographic expansion beyond its current Southwestern markets. Helix has worked on projects mostly in the hospitality and government sectors in Hawaii and recently opened a new office in Texas. Its offices in Guam handle mostly government contracts.

Helix Electric also specializes in renewable energy projects. The company installs solar thermal, solar photovoltaic, wind power, and geothermal and hydrothermal systems at government facilities and commercial properties.

Apprentice Electrician, Chantilly, VA - February 24, 2014
Positives? Pretty much all of the workers were very helpful and fun to work with and I learned a lot. But as for the negatives my superintendent would constantly hang the possibility of me losing my job over my head and he was really condescending and petty. To him all I was, was another person to produce "big numbers" not taking into account my experience or the in between work that doesn't show up on the time sheet at the end of the day. As an apprentice I did just as much work if not more the some of the journeyman on the job did and didn't get paid half as much as them. Management treats u like trash and expects you to bend over backwards for them and do it perfectly. There are better ways to gain experience and helix is just not worth the headache...
