Project Engineer (Former Employee) –  San Diego, CAMay 19, 2017
Excellent supervisors who commited sincerely to mentoring me. My only slightly negative was Upper Management was unapproachable.

My years there were positive overall. Great project managers and general superintendents who care about their projects and employees.

Worst contractor I've ever worked for...
Journeyman Electrician (Current Employee) –  Tesla Gigafactory OneMay 17, 2017
There are good men and women that work for helix but the people that are in integral managment position leading work are hands down the most childish, underqualified, immature, and unprofessional people I've had the misfortune to work for; with an exception with of one or two supervisors. Constant make it work, jack-leg, scab, code violating, racist, small shop politics company. (Period)
Pros
Easy money just let them run their mouths.
Cons
Their mouths.

The job security is great, if you are okay with breaking your back for minimal. Compensation is not the best, at all, especially for people with specialty skills. Also the safety culture that is pushed by management isn't followed like it should be...by management.

job security
Cons
compensation

Not an ethical company. They will squeeze every last drop of blood and sweat out of you. Very high turn over because of this. Pay is very often the bottom of the barrel across the board/industry.

This company starts you off just fine. They make it seem like they have a load of work for you, and that you will be set. They make you not want to leave as they convince you they are a family company. They'll never give a raise, and when you ask for one they will lay you off.
Pros
They know how to save money, and make money.
Cons
No raises. No benefits. No bonuses.

Worst company I have ever worked for
PV Installer (Former Employee) –  McCamey, TXNovember 27, 2016
I worked on the solar farm they did in McCamey TX, I was part of the modules installation team. Every single day when the day started it all began with a superintendent or foreman screaming at the whole crew that the production numbers were bad and that the quality was bad and that if we didn’t pick up the numbers and better our quality they would replace us all. Our 10 minute breaks were a joke we had to talk almost a mile to get to a break area where we didn’t even have enough shade for everyone and 5 mins into the break they would start yelling out “ OK GET UP AND GET WATER TIME TO GET BACK TO WORK “. They had ice chests that were really nasty and filled with a lot of dirt and they expected you to get ice from here to put into your camel pack. Also if it rained they would keep you on stand down in the morning for like 3 - 4 hours and then tell you to go home that there was no work today, they would not pay per deim or any hours for showing up. They used scare tactics to try and motivate their employees. Sorry helix but if this review sounds harsh it’s because it’s the truth you treated everyone with disrespect and they are the ones that kept the company alive.

ON top of all of this they would mess up payroll all the time.
Pros
Nice workout installing glass all day
Cons
threats, payroll, no per deim on rainy days even when you show up, douche foremans and superintendents

Training Coordinator (Former Employee) –  Oakland, CAAugust 1, 2016
I would not recommend this company to anyone. They're payroll is always incorrect. Electricians in the field often don't get paid all their hours. Unfortunately, Helix doesn't train the personnel they promote to managers and it shows. They lack basic leadership skills and professional communication. The electricians and superintendents are the meat and potatoes of the company. They're what keeps it going but management sees them as replaceable and treats them as such. Management talks to the electricians as though they're stupid and it's hard to watch.
They do offer craft and safety training classes at no charge to their employees, which is a huge plus. Get certified in everything then go to a better company where you can actually put those skills to use.
Pros
Fun people.
Cons
Management and payroll.

Electrical Engineer (Former Employee) –  Las Vegas, NVAugust 29, 2015
The prefab warehouse is a great place to start your electrical engineering career. You get to learn all the basics of becoming an electrician and what it takes to power a resident and/or commercial building all in a fun but safe workplace. Safety 1st is always the approach to everything in the electrical field so paying extremely close attention to details is essential, therefore the repetitive instructions of safety procedures are nagging but necessary.
Pros
Very educational
Cons
Short breaks
