Center Director, Washington, DC - January 18, 2017
Working at Higher Achievement was at times tough, yet a rewarding job. Although my average rating is a 3, I rated them a 4 because of the quality of programming offered to students/scholars. The team work among the Center staff and other co-workers was a huge motivator! Like-minded individuals coming together for the greater good created the energy to move through each day. The hardest part of the job was keeping tabs on the many moving parts that occurred outside of the work being accomplished with scholars. The most enjoyable part of the job was watching students excel in ways they could not have imagined. Reading about their acceptances into top high schools in Washington, DC was the ultimate reward for a scholar's job well done. Along with their mentors, you become an integral part of their daily lives and create long lasting bonds. Some days, the scholars breathe life into you as they share their thoughts, feelings and emotions through poems, songs, activism. Whether big or small, these actions pulled you back to work with them another day. Any adult applying to work at Higher Achievement must remember to always be open to learn from the scholars. They have more to teach us than you think! If nothing else, they will teach you about yourself.
