Productive, great people to work with, good incentives
Specialist Buyer Assistant/Purchasing Assistant (Former Employee), Santa Clara, CA – May 7, 2013
Pros: special occassion free lunches, friendly people, nice facilities
Cons: commute, traffic
Other departments have great communication between other departments. It's a fun place to work with but you also get your work done.

Very friendly company iwth good people
Manager (Current Employee), US – April 9, 2013
Very weak vacation policy for professionals; limited growth opportunities unless you live near (or are willing to relocate to) a fairly small number of core metroplitan areas.

Very busy company and good benefits
Data Entry/Scheduler/Customer service (Current Employee), Norman Ok – April 1, 2013
Pros: excellent benefits
Cons: unstable work, no personal life
This company is a very very busy place to work. Very detailed oriented and constant focus on attention to detail. My day consist of reading around 300 emails a day and scheduling work loads for shipment. I also create software keys for storage systems. The hardest part of this job the hours. There are times when a lot of overtime is needed due to extensive – more... work loads. – less

Mac Support Engineer (Current Employee), Santa Clara, CA – March 17, 2013
Pros: benefits (if you use them), gym
Cons: poor management
This is one of the companies where people can't wait to get to friday and have a day off.
management level is okay, though IT team was never asked to provide overall feedback to make the job better. Hence IT team has no motivation to work

Great office, gym on-site, Japanese garden
Sr Financial Analyst (Current Employee), Santa Clara, CA – March 14, 2013
Pros: great bring your kid to work day and bring your dog to work day
Hitachi Data Systems has wonderful executive team, great environment, culture and senior leadership which cares about people. However, it depends on one's manager and the situation in one's team. I like to focus on positive side in life, so do not want to be critical here, since individual decision of some people and the company itself are two different – more... things. Overall, HDS is a great place to work. – less

Good place to work if you like the "cowboy" approach
Infrastructure Department (Current Employee), Santa Clara, CA – March 13, 2013
Cons: direction and leadership does not exist
The infrastructure department is lead by a CIO that couldn't care less about his own departments or the infrastructure. For an IT company the network is about 70% at best. Personal garbage runs the company. I do not recommend working for the company. The parent company, Hitachi, is a better place to work.

Great coworkers and benefits
Sr. IT Business Analyst (Current Employee), Santa Clara, CA – February 13, 2013
Pros: gym and great cafe
Cons: understaffed
Great co-workers in both immediate team and extended global offices! The HQ location offers a new gym and beautiful cafeteria plus fun activtities through out the year.

The biggest challenge is lack of growth in IT positions and understaffing/compressed timelines on large visibility projects.

Pros: great opportunities to try new a new approach and challenged to work outside of my comfort area.
Cons: management took too long to make decisions
Given many opportunities to grow and explore new areas of the job. Entire team was aligned with the overall direction of the department and all wanted were working towards the company's goals. Enjoyed my co-workers and management team.

HDS
Responsable Canadien, Channel Marketing (Former Employee), Montreal, qc – January 11, 2013
Pros: perks are great ( trips, bonuses, etc...)
Cons: company trying to redefine themselves with all the instability that entails.
HDS is a good company to work for because of its wealth ( selling hard drives is extremely profitable) but they are at a crossroads when it comes to defining themselves. They have always had great products for enterprise customers but their recent attempt to penetrate the smb market deeper ( acquisition of bluearc) is not very successful due to lack – more... of brand recognition in that market. – less

Productive and fun work place
Intern (Current Employee), Johannesburg – December 10, 2012
Pros: free lunch every fridays
Cons: presentations
A typical day at work: getting on with the current work at hand e.g preparing for a presentation on Android app using App inventor.

What you learned: I have learned a lot of things here at Hitachi, most of all soft skills, they have made me an even better person.

Management: People on management are the greatest, there isn't anyone who doesn't know – more... that when people are happy they do a well done job and everyone gets happy

Your co-workers: They are the greatest team i have ever came across, we work best together.

The hardest part of the job: having to deliver monthly project and having to do many thing at once, that alone has made me very strong and indipendant.

When working with the whole team, sharing ideas and winning, victory and competition to me is the most important, it drives and motivates me to want to even do more. – less
