Job Announcement: Library Director, Town of Hobson City, Alabama
Hobson City, Alabama’s First Incorporated Black City, founded in 1899 is seeking a Library Director.
Hobson City Public Library is committed to promoting access to information, reducing barriers to the digital world, increasing literacy and academic achievement, as well as promoting literary experiences.
Summary of Job Responsibilities:
The Library Director provides leadership and serves as the library's primary public representative. The library director is expected to represent the library within the community, develop programs, develop collections, provide budgeting information, manage volunteers, and manage the library facilities.
Assists patrons in the use of print materials, equipment and technologies by answering questions, offers basic technical assistance, troubleshoots computer problems, assists in navigating the Internet, locates databases in order to help patrons use library resources. Actively seeks funding for the library from a wide variety of grant agencies. Trains and supervises volunteers to help in the library. Operate the library’s computer catalog. Develops collection in response to community’s needs, purchases materials, carries out weeding, and evaluates donated materials. Initiates and coordinates programs including preschool storytime, family night and summer reading; advises the Board on pertinent issues, and gives monthly reports on library operations, attends meetings Library Board meetings and the necessary City Council meetings.
Supervises volunteers, interns and part-time staff (when available)
Special working conditions
The position is part-time, currently 16-20 hours per week. Work includes prolonged sitting, as well as moderate lifting, carrying, reaching, stooping, pulling and pushing activities, manual dexterity, clear speech, and visual hearing acuity.
Bachelor’s degree and a broad background in management, administration, operations and finance. Knowledge of public library services and operation and library collections. College degree, Master’s in Library Science and library work experience will be a plus.
