No chance to advance in this company
Analyst (Current Employee) –  DundeeOctober 11, 2013
Holcim does not encourage education or any growth. They will not pay for school even though they promise to. Raise in 2012 was 1.2% but the bonus was good. Holcim has cut some of their health benefits so that more comes out of employees pockets. So the total benefit package is below what other companies offer. Holcim reorganizes it's management structure every 18 months so I don't feel a lot of job security here. Co-workers are ok, there are some social events that make it fun to work here.
Pros
Social events to make it fun to work at Holcim
Cons
No chance to advance or educate yourself.

Document Control Assistant (Former Employee) –  Bloomsdale MOOctober 4, 2013
This was a challenging and fascinating position. There were many facets to my position. I worked with Engineers and contractors from all over the world. Everyone was gracious and pulled together as a team.

The hardest part of the job was leaving that wonderful environment when the project ended.
Pros
Close to home.
Cons
Low pay and no benefits.

Poor place to work
just another causality of the system (Former Employee) –  Trident, MTJune 7, 2013
The plant is poorly managed. The management has very poor people skills and has run off a lot of good workers. Those that do stay would probably leave if a good opportunity presented itself. I would not recommend working here if you have any other opportunities.

The company looks good on paper however they do not follow their policies.

You constantly have to watch your back. Everybody is scared of losing their job.

Very stressful place, to work. low morale
Pros
Great location
Cons
low pay, poor management, poor safety policy

Lab Assistant/Data Entry (Former Employee) –  Chicago, ILMay 16, 2013
Go, go, go! Non-stop opportunities to learn, improve or enhance individual skills. Definately not boring. Saftey first! Management is patient, and caring. People work with smiles on their faces. Hardest part of the job was adjusting from Data Entry to Lab assistant, but once I got the hang of it, it was great to have the variety in tasks. All employed there are fun and agreeable to work with.
Pros
Affable employees and management.
Cons
Dusty industrial environment.

Management is unfair and inexperienced
Administration (Current Employee) –  Three Forks, MontanaJanuary 10, 2013
The people who work there are great but management doesn't have a clue. They definately have a problem with communication and their Human Resources department. Bottom line is they don't care about the workers and are going to do whatever they like in spite of Labor Relations...... Very unsafe and inexperienced.
Pros
benefits are ok, workers are aces!
Cons
poor safety, pay is inadequate for the area, refuse to hire locals.

Michigan Terminal Operations (Current Employee) –  Grandville, MIDecember 31, 2012
Holcim is a strong, ethical corporation. They have brought me through a labor position in a different state to managing mulitiple terminals and third party facilities. Co-workers have been great and most mentors are knowledable about others work life and chalenges. I manage both union and non-union employees.

Hardest part of the job is completing the same work load with 40% of the original workforce. Most enjoyable is the diversity of the positions. You never have the same day twice in a week.
Pros
pension, 401k, generous vacations and holidays.
Cons
amount of travel.

Very Disappointed
Someone who sincerely cares. (Former Employee) –  Three Forks, MTDecember 23, 2012
I was forced to resign after I violated an ambiguous safety policy. Instead of determining the root cause of the near miss with a thorough investigation using experts, the corrective action was to quietly fire me. It is absurd firing an employee on a poorly written policy and one that is not communicated or well trained. It was a lynching. Imagine how this will affect the safety culture; no one will want to report near misses, safety hazards, or accidents allowing risk to continue. It is a shame since the employees really want an effective safety program; they just need the right safety professional and support by management (which apparently is lacking) to get the program going.

Not only are the policies poorly written, but not written by a safety expert. Employees are exposed to hazards just from following Trident's poorly-written policies and programs. Beware if you choose to work there.
Pros
great workers; great benefits
Cons
a couple of distrustful managers
