Watching and reviewing movies
Guest Service Representative & Shift Leader (Former Employee), Springfield, OR –
Fun! Just being able to rent movies for free, watch them that way you could give feedback to customers about the movie(s) they have selected.

productive and fun work place
Morning Manager (Former Employee), Jupiter, FL –
Pros: interacting with customers, free movies
Cons: no heathcare, and that they went out of buisness
get there at 8am, pull every movie out of the drop box and then
scan them in to the computer, then do the morning paperwork
then do the bank run, then put the movies back on the shelf. then open the doors and customer service, register, help a customer pick out the good movies that they want from the category's they desire.
i learned that there are – more...  so many different movies with so many stars
management was great they always were helpful and honest.
there was nothing hard about the job.
interacting with your customers – less

Loved my time at Hollywood Video. Fun and friendly.
Worked mostly 20 hours a week.
Manager was so nice and fun to be around.
The bad employees tended to weed themselves out.

fun work environment, loved my customers, loved my JOB..
Shift leader (Former Employee), Yuma, AZ –
Pros: getting to view movies before release date, free rentals, employee discounts
Cons: i have nothing bad to say.
A typical day at work would be going in before opening time, print out morning's paper work for the day, prepare all cash drawers for the day, then check in all the movies from the night drop boxes and then locking and organize the movies by alpha and category and take them back onto the floor where they belonged. After that I'd walk threw the store – more...  to make sure everything was in place and cleaned. By this time it would have been time to open up the store. While customers came in I'd greet them and ask if they needed help finding anything. Most customers that would be waiting for the store to open would be are MVP customers that we'd probably see 2 or 3 more times during that same day. And that would be a typical day at work. As for my manager I loved her. She made it so easy to learn all the skills and duties required for my position. She even went beyond in training me the duties of assistant manager just in case there was an opening. As for my co-workers, I couldn't ask for a better team to work with. As for the hardest part of my job..... well I guess it would be on Mondays when we had to condense and rearrange the wall for Tuesday's New Releases and inventory. Those would be the most not so much hardest but stressful part of the job. My most enjoyable part of my job would be interacting with the customers. I loved seeing them everyday and it's funny how seeing them everyday made it feel like they were almost like family. They always seemed to bring a smile on one's face. – less

Shift Manager (Former Employee), Madera, CA –
Pros: productive
Cons: poor security
Weekdays were moderately busy and weekend were most busy. I learned managemnt duties, sales, marketing and bookkeeping. Management was knowlegeable in all areas, co-workers were professional and pleasant The most difficult part was the day the business closed its doors. The most enjoyable part was watching the new releases before they were available – more...  to the public in order to market the movie. – less

It was rental retail... now its gone.
Assistant Manager (Former Employee), Chesapeake, VA –
Pros: unlimited free rentals and merchandise discounts
Cons: commercials on constant loop, nonstop overflow of returns
Not much one can say about working in a video store, even as the manager. The fact that my team was great, caring and knowledgeable was, as is typically the case with retail, location specific. The pay was less than fair in accordance with corporate policy, the hours were good because we made them that way, and upper management was an ever present thorn – more...  concerned only with profits and neither employee nor customer relations. – less

A fun place to work
Shift Lead (Former Employee), Sacramento, CA –
Pros: free movie and game rentals, fun
Cons: it's no longer a company
Though Hollywood Video is out of business, when I did work there is was really fun. Getting to recommend movies to people as well as keep your regulars coming back was one of the best parts of the job. It was easy to advance as long as you showed motivation to do so. A typical day was cleaning, restocking, cataloging, opening/closing duties (depending – more...  on which shift you work), managing the registers, completing daily call lists and keeping the overall mood uplifting. I'd say the hardest part of this job was having to leave it. It was honestly one of the best places I've worked and I was sad to see it go. – less
