a great place to work!
Seasonal Sales/Garden Associate (Former Employee), Warren, MIJuly 18, 2014
Pros: great managers, wonderful staff
Cons: hours can vary if sales slump (due to weather, etc.)
The Home Depot in Warren, MI on Hoover Rd has really good management (which is unusual for retail). Many of the associates have been there for more than a decade, and the work environment is very friendly and welcoming. I worked there for a summer job, and it was really enjoyable. I learned a lot about all kinds of home improvement in a short period – more... of time. Would highly recommend this Home Depot as an excellent place to work. – less

Head Cashier (Former Employee), San Diego, CAJuly 18, 2014
Pros: employee stock purchase and employee bonus
Cons: not enough hours
I am a head cashier and would make sure all things on the front end ran smoothly,.
I made sure there were adequate cashiers and lanes open for a speedy check out.
I enjoy working with my co-workers, they make working there fun.

Pretty terrible place to work
Overnight Freight Associate (Former Employee), Colorado Springs, COJuly 17, 2014
Pros: get to break a lot of stuff with equipment
Cons: management sucks, pay sucks, job sucks.
I worked overnight freight, we worked so hard every night, and got ZERO recognition, and got paid the worst of anyone in the store. management was terrible only cared about their own paychecks, they didn't care about the employees, dental and vision benefits are good. raises are an absolute joke at most maybe 30 cents a year. advancement is unlikely – more... considering all the employees that make all the money and do ZERO work are the ones with 15 plus years experience. This was a fun place to work for about a month, then you realize how terrible this company is to work for. – less

Lot/Loader
Lot/Loader (Former Employee), Grand Prairie, TXJuly 17, 2014
Pros: great work environment, willing to work with your schedule
Cons: low pay
Easy to clock in and get ready for work. My job description was simply to help out any customers and associates with any loading/ unloading of certain products. There will be times where I have to do other jobs as to pull and pick orders for customers, will-call, and online orders. Co-workers were very supportive, positive, and willing to help out whatever – more... the case maybe. The management was really good, if any problems occurred they are willing to listen and get the issue resolved. The only difficult thing about the job was getting a hold of other associates in certain departments for assistance. Overall the job was basic and simple, I really enjoyed myself being a employee there at the Home Depot. – less

Department Supervisor (Current Employee), Woodhaven, NYJuly 17, 2014
Pros: benefits, paid holidays
Cons: health care only available for full timers
At the Home Depot you will come across a diverse group of individuals. Different people from around the area come to receive world class customer service at the Home Depot. It is a very interesting place to work because of the different things you learn each and every day. You will help hundreds of customers a day. You can impact somebody's day in a – more... very positive way by providing these customers the best help they could ever receive. The most hardest part about the job would be having to go home and not make another person smile for that day. Overall this is a very exciting job full of opportunities and development. The work atmosphere is very pleasant and enjoyable. – less

Poor leadership driving business into the ground
Special Services Associate (Former Employee), Midland, MIJuly 17, 2014
Pros: pays more than minimum wage
Cons: management is not liked in any way.
I worked at the Service Desk, where we were almost always shorthanded. Management refused to address the need of a critical aspect of the store and demanded the absolute most from its underpaid & overworked employees.
I did not learn much in my 3+ years of employment, and found almost nothing to be enjoyable.

Pros: great benfits
Cons: everything else
Don't work too hard for Home Depot, you will find that they take advantage of it without any more compensation or advancement available. The employees are congenial and the atmosphere seems welcoming until you work there for at least 90 days.

Great job with promotion opportunities
Sales Associate/Team Lead (Current Employee), Los Angeles, CAJuly 16, 2014
Pros: success sharing
Cons: management
Home Depot has a flexible schedule for part-time employees, also they offer promotion opportunities through hard work and dedication. I have learned almost everything there is to know about the business and what it takes to get to the next level in my career. The hardest part of the job would be dealing with work politics and how to adjust to different – more... work related environments and constant change within the company. The most enjoyable part about the job are the success sharing parties. – less

Fun learning job, low hours.
Sales Associate (Current Employee), Grand Prairie, TXJuly 16, 2014
Pros: fun, friendly staff. team oriented
Cons: part-time preference. often understaffed
Started off working as a cashier, finally after a whole year was promoted to the sales floor to the kitchen&bath department.

So far after six months of being on the floor I've learned a lot about our products and services. Training could be better, but its a learn as you go type of job mostly.

Management is ok, only downfall with working for The Home – more... Depot is the lack oh hours! Which is a major downfall. If you are hired as a full-time then you must have some good connections.

What I most like about this company is the opportunity to learn to drive lift equiptment. – less
