Janitor (Former Employee), Indianapolis, IN – May 5, 2013
Pros: flexible time schedule
Cons: not enough hours to go around
It was a nice place to work,i just wasn't getting paid what i felt i was worth. I did a little bit of everything, janitor, front desk, and night laundry. the management was ok he just kept promising me hours he never gave. the people i worked with were very nice and I had a blast with them! the hardest part of the job was when to toilets broke,I had to – more... use a shovel that day.i loved the job though, i got a chance to help people all day and i love love helping people!! – less

Houseman/Shuttle Driver (Current Employee), Columbus, OH – April 19, 2013
Pros: free lunches
My co-workers are very helpful. I used to work for this company as a contractor. This year January they cancelled my contract and put me on the pay roll. So I have very less earnings now, which is really hurting me. My budget is all messed up.

Fun and productive place to work.
Housekeeping (Former Employee), Bloomington, IN – April 5, 2013
Pros: benefits, great people.
Cons: usually not enough hours.
Cleaning 12-25 rooms a day is a great workout. Learned that no matters how high the numbers are in cleaning rooms, the ending results are awesome.

Very much a Team Player Company
Auditor p (Current Employee), Jacksonville, Fl – April 4, 2013
Pros: great rates on hotel stays
Cons: up at night
I normally work at Night. I start out making sure the cash drawer is correct. Going through paperwork making sure receipts and Folio's are accounted for discharges. While also answer phones to make reservations and completing guest request. then I start the end of day process once complted and assist in organizing and preping for breakfast. Making coffee – more... and setting up all cold products for early departing guest and to aide in the assistance of the breakfast person. I learn from management is making use of time. The hardest part of the job is staying awake. The most enjoyable part is working along giving me time to study for advancement. – less

Extended Stay Hotel
Front Desk (Former Employee), Omaha, NE – March 22, 2013
Pros: travel discounts
Cons: over night shifts were required sometimes
Working front desk meant always being availabe to help or resolve and guest issues. I learned a lot of customer service skills here and phone etiquette. Managment was ok, there had been a few different buy outs of the location while I worked there so managment was changing a lot. This was good in building adaptability. Co workers were great and like – more... a family. The hardest part of my job was sometimes having to work overnights. The most enjoyable part of my job was getting recognized for great customer service. – less

Every Hotel is different. There are great Homewood's and there are some pretty terrible ones. Check it out, see for yourself and ask a lot of questions.

Amazing workplace.
Housekeeper (Former Employee), Yuma, AZ – December 18, 2012
A typical day at work is cleaning up to 16 plus rooms. I learned to work at a fast pace. I learned how to properly clean rooms. The management was amazing. Our housekeeper manager worked with us every single day. She cared about our needs. Had the best group of co-workers. The hardest part of the job was getting all the rooms done by a specific time. – more... The most enjoyable part of the job was the satisfaction that guest expressed to us as housekeepers. They was thankful because we detailed their rooms. – less

The place where my love of customer service began!
Front Desk Representative/Night Auditor (Former Employee), Tallahassee, FL – October 18, 2012
Pros: very positive and friendly work environment, great hours, great starting pay, great customers
Cons: having to leave that job!
Homewood Suites provided me with my first experience in the area of customer service. I learned how to deal with customers in a friendly, compassionate way and do whatever I could do to ensure their satisfaction. Of course there were ups and downs, but overall, the experience was one that I consider to be the beginning of my love of customer service. – more... I learned to use and navigate the hotel's computer system and became quite efficient at my job. The most difficult part of the job was that there was almost no recourse for me when the computer system was done. I would basically be stranded until it was fixed since there was no way to do my job manually. I enjoyed the times when I would have guests tell me that because of what I did, they had a better day. There was nothing that made me happier than another satified customer! – less

Pros: employee benefits
Cons: communication
I learned a lot working in the hotel business. My customer service and business management skills have increased. I learned how to handle difficult situations professionally. My co-workers were the always uplifting and very helpful. The hardest part of my job was the transition from working in a fast food restaurant to a hotel. The most enjoyable part – more... is the flexibility and the freedom I had with my schedule. – less
