Territory Manager, Richmond, VA - December 18, 2013
The company presents well but once on board you get no real training or guidance. Their management style is "crisis management" not consistent, supportive and developmental. Very tumultuous office environment with no strong professional leadership. Then there's the non-compete contract with a clause that all disputes will be handled in PA arbitration, they have you sign. Of course you don't realize that the contract is so broad you it prevents you from selling pizza to your old clients for a year. You can't take it to VA court because of the clause that binds you to settle disputes in PA arbitration not even in PA court. As if it couldn't get any worse.... PA is a "Blue Pencil Rule State" which means if you have a ridiculous non-compete contract... the arbitrator or judge will just mark out and change the wording... to make the contract more reasonable! Wow, glad I don't live in PA! In VA the court would just throw the whole contract out because it's a "Right To Work State" with no "Blue Pencil Rules". If you take the job...negotiate the non-compete contract, at least have a lawyer look at it first. Trust me it will be money well spent and save you a year of headaches!
