Not much different from other community hospitals
RN (Former Employee), 6EJanuary 12, 2014
Pros: name recognition, closer to home, nice new building, free parking
Cons: filipino cliques, inexperienced rn's in charge, unsafe staffing, foreign staff/doctors
Most of the nursing staff and many of the foreign doctors are from Christus-Katy; and most of them function pretty much the same way they did at Christus. The only difference is they work in a new, nicer looking building. I am surprised to find out that most of what they hire are filipino RN's many of which only earned a meager two year degree. They are simply not as knowledgeable as younger American educated RN's. As an American I think those jobs belong to responsible Americans who follow proper work-life balance. These filipino RN's are unsafe because most of them are working two jobs. This poses a public health dilemma: do you want tired RN's who work 6-7 twelve hour shifts a week taking care of your loved one? I know I don't! Management is great to your face but you are always wondering why you get no support when you address real clinical issues or staffing problems. If you are a patient, I would recommend making the drive to the medical center because it really could save your life! I resigned at Methodist West because they are just like all other money hungry hospitals out there. It is all about the bottom line not patient care. The medical center hospitals are superior to any community hospital because they mandate a four year degree from a real nursing school and you have to be experienced in your field to be in charge. Houston Methodist as a company is also quite irritating especially when it comes to benefits. In order to get health benefits you have to provide so much documentation you would think you were applying to the CIA! It is just ridiculous! Oh, and if you – more... don't do what they say you will pay stiff penalties which means less on your paycheck. If I were to consider working for Houston Methodist again it would only be Main Methodist downtown but at this point I am not even interested. I am so much happier after leaving that place. If you like spending 9 hours of a 12 hour shift on the computer charting then this is your place. Oh you might want to learn the language because they are not speaking English over there!!! – less

Pros: great work enviroment, high standards and quality
Houston Methodist is a great place to work for, the whole enviroment of the hospital from the patients to the employees shows the effects of the I-CARE values Methodist upholds. I would highly recommend this hospital as a great company to work for.
