Notetaker/Student Aid (Current Employee), Jersey City, NJJune 11, 2014
Pros: flexible schedule, increasing my ability to work with those in need
Cons: low pay, part time ( limited hours)
Working directly for students in class has enabled me to relate to those in different ways depending on their level of help needed. This experience has helped me grow as a videographer/producer by learning how to take a thought and translate it so that others can understand simply. This skill has been directly useful when trying to coordinate with screenwriters/directors/actors.

Not only are you doing office work you are able to learn all the details about student Financial Aid. – less

English Adjunct Professor (Current Employee), Jersey City, NJMarch 25, 2014
Pros: my students want to learn.
Cons: my students get stressed out at the end of the semester.
The most enjoyable part of my job is seeing students at the beginning of the semester, come in and have no clue of writing a standard five paragraph. Once they get the concepts and become confident writers you see a since of pride in each individual student.

Instructor (Current Employee), Jersey City, NJMarch 18, 2014
Working in the non-credit Community Education division of the college has provided a great opportunity for me to utilize my teaching ability for a multicultural student population. The challenge is always to take a difficult topic and make it presentable and learnable to students who have English as a second language. The majority receive my instruction – more... with great enthusiasm and gratitude and as a result have, overall, met or exceeded the academic requirement for completing each course. Seeing their accomplishment is one of the most enjoyable parts of the job. Having to say good-bye is the hardest. – less

Adjunct Professor (Current Employee), Jersey City, NJMarch 8, 2014
Pros: fun environment, nice students, good hours
Cons: low pay, difficult to advance
Teaching here on Saturday mornings is a great way to keep academics in my life since I am no longer a student. There is a lot of freedom to develop lesson plans, lectures, exams, and classroom activities. The students are diverse and in political science, those different points of view contribute positively to all classroom discussions.

Payroll Clerk (Current Employee), Jersey City, NJFebruary 28, 2014
Pros: doing a job wel done
Cons: i work as a part time temp. would prefer full time employment
Time Sheets are handed in by the department supervisors by a regulated timeline. I learned how crucial accuracy is in processing payment to keep a balance in check for the accounting department. I answer to the Payroll Manager. The job is not difficult per say. It is extremely detailed oriented. My reward comes from knowing that all 400+ time sheets – more... are processed accordingly. – less

Student Ambassador (Former Employee), Jersey City, NJFebruary 18, 2014
As my time as a Student Ambassador I was also a full time student at Hudson County Community College . I was able to show off my excellent customer skills by helping prospective students enroll in school. The hardest part about the job was the pay. I was unable to stay a full time student and raise a family with minimum income.

Good place to work if you're a student
Customer Service Assistant (Current Employee), Jersey City, NJNovember 10, 2013
Pros: good benefits for full timers
Cons: disorganized and not so much privilages for part timers
It is a good place to work at if you are a student. Students who apply for work study and get shift to part time is the best opportunity to gain experience, but to work there as a career isn't a good idea

Advisor (Current Employee), Jersey City, NJSeptember 30, 2013
Pros: great working environment and co-workers.
Cons: due to the rules set by the college, a bachelor's degree will only allow you to work part-time.
HCCC is a great place to work at. There is never a dull day and the work environment is great. Everyone works together as a cohesive unit and are always willing to help each other when in need. However, this job is not something in which you want to stay forever. It is ultimately a position that should be viewed as a stepping stone to get ahead and – more... go on to bigger and better oppurtunities. – less

Best job I ever had
Computer lab assistant (Former Employee), Jersey City, NJAugust 28, 2013
Pros: nice calming work situation
Cons: short hours, have to re-apply every 4 months, minimum wage
This job was the best job I ever had because it didn't require too much energy to use. However, I wouldn't call this a normal job simply because you have to re-apply every semester so it wasn't reliable. This was so the bosses wouldn't have to fire you but just not re-hire you. the rules were a little ridiculous that we had to enforce to the students – more... but we did anyways. – less

Pros: cool job
I learn a lot about admissions process mostly. I became much better in communicating and providing accurate information to students and built lifelong friendships with the staff and instructors.
