Important and serious.
Sterile Processing Technician (Current Employee), Pasadena, CA – April 5, 2013
Pros: changing assignments daily.
Cons: short breaks.
Responsible for carrying out any assigned area(s) within the Central Service Dept. For example, a typical day might be spent in the decontamination area of the dept. and/or surgical tray assembly, sterilizing surgical trays, instruments, and equipment in preparation for patients to undergo surgical procedures following the next work day. In the role – more... of a Sterile Processing Technician, the opportunity to learn a variety of surgical specialty trays, procedures, and equipment in learned on a daily basis. There is nothing that can be learned in one (1) day as a Sterile Processing Technician. All co-workers are given an assigned area(s) in a typical work day. My co-workers have different levels of responsibility on a daily basis, but everyone's job is a challenge. The hardest part of the job is a day in decontamination or preparing case carts. The most enjoyable part of the day is completion at any task attempted, success you might say. – less

EMERGENCY ROOM UNIT SECRETARY (Former Employee), Pasadena, CA – March 7, 2013
Pros: discount lunches and free parking.
Cons: short breaks, sometimes no breaks
Support the emergency room doctor, order all his lab work, answered phone. Schedule the patient care associate and the other unit secretaries. Enjoyed help people period whether it was patients, employees or patient families. The hardest part of the job when it got really busy and demanding sometimes, I could still handle it, be it was hard.

Caring People working hard
Certified Surgical Technologist (Former Employee), Pasadena, CA – October 3, 2012
Pros: high expectations for all employees.
Cons: not enough direction, in my case.
My main role was Liaison between the OR and Sterile Supply. I reported directly to the OR Manager at the time. She ended up resigning midway during my time at HMH. My job was very confusing. No one had ever had my position before and I doubt they rehired anybody to replace me. So my advice would be to not accept a position unless they have clear job – more... duties. Other than that as you see by the ratings I loved the place, people and managers. The best part of my job was the diverse types of cases I was able to scrub in for. And the doctors are top notch. I would love to go back there and work someday. – less

If any thing goes wrong once you take a job with them they have no integrity or concern for human well-being
Management (Former Employee), Pasadena, California – September 28, 2012
Pros: there are no pros to work for hmh.
Cons: they are self centered.
If they decide they do not want you they will eliminate positions for a few months as a way to get rid of you than re-hire someone else. They have no concern what will happen to you or your family. The vp's and directors have only one thing in mind which is how much money they can make for themselves. They use money to go out to lunch, supply bottle – more... water for themselves, buy chewing gum buy the cartons if they want it and are just careless with their money. This is not a good place to work. If a family member becomes ill they will not allow you to take time to care for your family. – less

Nursing Student- Medical/Surgical Telemetry Unit (Former Employee), Huntington, NY – September 27, 2012
Great place to work, nurses took time to educate nursing students. Productive work environment. Most nurses showed compassion to patients. Clinical nurse educators were very patient with nursing students and we learned a lot from them.

HMH has no commitment to its employees
US (Former Employee), Pasadena, CA – June 26, 2012
I worked here for 8+ years. I earned a degree to move up and get a better job. I could've easily been internally transferred to the new department. Instead, they decided to hire outside people, including 2 people I graduated with, over me. I was good at my previous job and I'm good at what I do now. My supervisors and co-workers at my current job can – more... back me up on that. – less

Pros: great compensation
Cons: short breaks, increase patient load
It is fast paced , the institution is clean and the workers are friendly. A great learning experience.
Central Sterile Processing Technician (Certified) (Former Employee), Pasadena, CA – April 7, 2012
Pros: healthcare, lunch breaks, vacations
Going to work toHuntington was a very warm and friendly experience. A typical day at work would be discussing the tasks for the day and preparing instruments, case carts, crash carts and picking-up/ delivery of durable medical equipment.
I've learned a lot of things that I didn't learn from school like operating different types of sterilizers, cart – more... washers and how to clean/disinfect durable medical devices and surgical instruments thru in- house teachings, meaning company representatives will teach us how to operate, clean and how to take care of certain instruments. Huntington is a level 1 trauma hospital. It has 500 rooms and around 20 operating rooms. I learned to deliver goods and services to all the facilities of the hospital either regularly orders or STAT orders, in the fastest way possible.
During my stay at Huntington, management was a bit on the "not so good side" since my manager was still new at that time. My former department manager resigned. Everything was being changed, co-workers were complaining to the changes. But I cannot complain to the higher management.
Like any other workplace, dealing with my co-workers had its ups and downs at first, but overall it was good. I've learned how to deal with difficult co-workers which are just a few. But the majority were fun to work with.
Since Huntington is a trauma hospital, STAT orders are sometimes difficult to carry out. Shortage of instrument trays and medical equipment occurs when there is high accuity. But we carry them through.
The most enjoyable part of the job is being able to fulfill the needs of the different departments of the hospital and working in a peaceful environment. – less
