About Idle Hour Country Club

Idle Hour Club was established in 1912, making one of the state's oldest and most prestigious clubs. The property where the club now stands was a stock farm owned by R.H. Plant, whose interest was in raising trotters, not hitting a golf ball. He had one of the finest one-mile dirt tracks south of Louisville, Kentucky. Plant named his stock farm Idle – more... Hour because he spent so many idle hours there. The remains of the track are still visible. Traces can be seen along the right of number six, in the fairway of number eleven and along the green through the woods along the number nine rough.

Idle Hour Club has hosted a total of 6 Georgia State Amateur Golf Championships. The first was in 1923 when East Lake's Watts Gunn defeated Charles Black 1 up. The last Georgia State Amateur Championship held at Idle Hour Club was in 1997 and was won by Savannah's Tim O'Neal. O'Neal was the only player under par on Idle Hour's difficult terrain.

Future events being hosted by Idle Hour are the 2003 Georgia State Golf Association Junior Championship, The 50th Annual Peach Blossom to be held in 2003, the 5th Annual Senior Peach Blossom, and the 2008 State Amateur. – lessMore from ZoomInfo »
