Inconsistent work place
Sales Associate (Former Employee) –  Charlotte, NCAugust 3, 2017
IKEA was great in the beginning but with the change in management things shifted quickly. They often talked about advancement but that is unrealistic, managers often do not want you to switch departments and are very lazy. It is stressful and the manager of the the food department is a liar and loves to create drama which made work tense and just aweful. High turnover
Pros
Pto and sick time
Cons
Micro management, drama, inconsistency

A day at ikea is like a day at a big game. You come ready to put everything on the field/court. You also have people who have the same drive and work ethic, including the managers. I've seen plenty of times were management is not in the office but on the floor helping with the work load. My first month I was taught and certified in multiple machines. I would say the most difficult part of working at ikea is that maybe you just might have a bad day and not feel up to the work load. But even their is a strong team structure that balances everything out.
Pros
Benefits, Great Employee Facility, lockers, quiet room.

The environment at Ikea is very nice and enjoyable but the compensation is a bit low for the workload. The coworkers are all friendly and try to promote the brand as best they can.

Good company with great benefits. Growing throughout US market so plenty of opportunities to grow if you are willing to relocate. Global company, but behind the times with infrastructure and systems. Overall good mission and vision.

Was a great place to work
Goods Flow Team Lead (Current Employee) –  College Park, MDJuly 26, 2017
When I first started to work the for the company it was a great place. Over the years, it has gone down hill. A new structure has been implemented, where a lot of managers and specialist are being forced into lower roles. After years of being with the company you either accept the new position IKEA offers you ( for some this is making significantly less due to the lower job level), or find a new job in the new structure prior to the go live date. Go live date will be in October 2017. If you do not find a new job in the new structure you will be fired. Co-workers are supposed to be mapped into a new role, based off a competence profile each co-worker created. The profile can include jobs inside and outside of IKEA, degrees held, and special skills. Co-workers were told we would be mapped into a like for like position. It has turned into a popularity contest. It seems co-workers are getting positions based of how well they are liked and not about skills alone. I have worked for this company for many years and in fear of my job security.

Awesome Company with Great Benefits
Customer Relations Specialist, Home Delivery (Current Employee) –  St. Louis, MOJuly 26, 2017
Everyone knows you and is interested in you and what you do. The environment feels like home. Everyone is so eager to help you with a smile! There is always opportunities to learn more about different jobs/departments within. Management is great and you can always go to them with problems you may encounter. The hardest part of the job is really during big events, because you are dealing with large volumes of people all throughout the day. The idea is to be patient but remain focused and you can get through your day with a smile while looking forward to the next day.
Pros
Great employees, friendly environment, discounts and purchase incentives.
Cons
Typical warehouse environment: Can get cold in the winter months and hot in the summer.
