Assistant Manager/CSR Level (Current Employee), Tempe, AZMarch 1, 2014
As a Level 7 Associate, I work as a Cook and I am an Assistant Manager. Customer Service is a major part of my work with IN-N-OUT. It is necessary to maintain strong interpersonal, language, communication and conversational skills. Ability to adapt and follow instructions. Ability to move from one work area to another at a moment's notice and multi-task. – more... Responsible for the operation of store equipment, and effective operation of such equipment. Ability to interact positively and productively with co-workers and customers. Understand and follow posted work rules and procedures. Report incidents as necessary and handle any escalations in order to meet the needs and expectations of customers and staff. – less

Level 5 Associate (Former Employee), Phoenix, AZFebruary 25, 2014
Pros: free lunch when working, great pay, part-time benefits
Cons: repetitive motions
Everyday was a pleasure to go into work. All my managers as well as my co-workers always had a bright smile and a great attitude at work. Customers can easily tell everyone is enjoying their time spent at work. While this was my first job, I developed the best work ethic possible in my eyes. I also learned the golden rule to any business, The customer – more... is always right. The customers are the most important aspect to any business. If it wasn't for the customer would there even be a business to be had? The management was always friendly and also always worked with my personal schedule while I was in school or having medical issues. The company always took great care of all associates, giving us gifts for Christmas, throwing goal parties for us while giving away tons of prizes just for being an associate. If I hadn't moved to a location without In-N-Outs Id probably still be working there, at least as a side job. – less

Fast paced and fun work environment
Level 6 cook (Current Employee), Redondo Beach, CaliforniaFebruary 20, 2014
Pros: free lunch, great people, yearly picnic
Cons: short breaks, only 28 hours a week
At In-N-Out as soon as you clock in it is fast paced and busy until the time you clock out. My day here consists of cooking the burgers and maintaining good quality and a fast pace for as long as you are on the position. After you have completed about 2-4 hours on the grill the managers will rotate you to an easier position in which one will most likely – more... have to do something dealing with customers, in any of these positions it is essential to have great communication skills with not only the customers but with the cooks and fry team as well to ensure fast, friendly, and consistent good quality. The people here are always energetic, friendly, and there is a great sense of teamwork all around, everyone helps each other out. The hardest part about this job is working a six hour shift with only a ten minute break, but other than that everything about working here is enjoyable, you meet great people and have fun throughout the whole shift interacting with customers and working with people who are extremely motivated. – less

It's "fast" fast food. Things move very fast but after learning things the right way, it all moves like a well oiled machine.

Multi-tasking work place with high volume daily
Store Associate (Current Employee), Burbank, CAJanuary 21, 2014
Pros: free lunches, benefits, associate outings
Cons: management change alot
A typical day at work is never a slow one. We are always on our feet and helping customers and there is never nothing to do. I learned how to multi-task and to communicate to my customers. Management is like family at my store always trying to help us associates become better workers. The hardest part of the job is trying to help a high volume of customers – more... at a time. The most enjoyable is having customers walk in and know you by name and the compliments received, also trying to set different goals as a team. – less

Fun workplace with a fast-paced environment and opportunity for advancement
Associate (Current Employee), Placentia, CAJanuary 14, 2014
Pros: free food on the job, clear opportunity for advancement(with raises), excellent starting pay for fast food, great incentives to work hard
Cons: fast paced environment, strict standards, schedule is not very stable (different shifts every week)
Overall, this company is great, especially for a first job or if you are looking to move up and get into management. You have to being will to work hard and often at a fast pace, but you are compensated well. Management often has high expectations and will settle for nothing less than high quality product and service. Most associates are in their twenties, – more... which often means quite a bit of joking around and goofing off. Management usually does not mind this at all as long as the work gets done. Most associates are easy to get along with and make it a social, fun environment to work in. A positive attitude, common sense, manners, and money handling skills are all required. The great thing about this job is the pathway to move up is clearly set. You begin as a level 1; I have almost become a level 5 in just the past two years. Every level brings a raise, and new responsibilities. There are 8 levels before you can enter management. There are high standards and goals set for each stored, which are strictly enforced. If goals are met however, there are great rewards! For example, my store has personally gotten to go to Laker's games twice, and a dinner cruise, all expenses paid. The company really does it's part to make you feel like "family." They coordinate a variety of company-wide events such as company picnics and sports competitions in which stores can compete against each other(sports include basket-ball, soccer, softball, bowling, and more) Managers are also very cooperative when it comes to scheduling around school which is great for college students. The only downfall about the scheduling is the fact that as a part-time employee, you cannot work more than 28 hours a week and the shifts can be sporadic (varying between days and nights and changing weekly). I can honestly say though, despite the few cons and the intense work ethic required, that I love my job!!

P.S. You get three paid holidays (Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter) and they even give EVERY associate Christmas presents! Last year was a sleeping bag, this year was a light-up coffee mug, a beanie, and a travel bag for toiletries. GREAT STUFF! – less

The company is a great company to work for. They have a great training system. My managers were great and they cared a lot for me. They cared about my improvement. My Experience.
Associate/Clean Up Associate (Current Employee), Las VegasJanuary 4, 2014
Pros: free food, good pay
Cons: repetitive motion injury risk
My experience with In-N-Out has been a pleasurable one. In a typical work day I go on knowing that I can make customers happy. It's not like working at your average fast food place. In-N-Out has given to me just as much, and if not more than I've given to it. I've made some of my best friends working here; and I wouldn't turn anyone away from working – more... here. – less
