Indiana Regional Medical Center is the only regional hospital that offers a dedicated Center for Wound Healing to help heal chronic wounds as well as Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for non-healing wounds. The Center for Wound Healing offers services to help heal wounds such as diabetic ulcers, lower leg ulcers, pressure ulcers (bed sores), bone infection, – more... gangrene, skin tears or lacerations, radiation burns, and post-operation wounds and infections. If wounds are not treated in a timely and effective manner, they can become infected. The Center of Wound Healing is an outpatient program. Patients heal their wounds through weekly visits with the center's doctors and wound specialists. The Center For Wound Healing also offers Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, which is exclusive to the Indiana region. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, or HBOT simply allows the patient to breath 100 percent oxygen at increased atmospheric pressures, which promotes healing as well as fighting infection. The therapy is an effective and painless way to heal wounds. HBOT is suitable for around 20 percent of chronic wound patients, and most medical insurances cover the procedure. People most often use HBOT if have any of the following: diabetic foot wounds, skin graft/flap salvage, soft tissue radiation damage, chronic refractory osteomyelitis, progressive necrotizing infections and osteoradionecrosis. The Center for Wound Healing has two, one-person HBOT chambers. During the two-hour HBOT session, patients can watch television or even sleep.
