Working at Indymac Bank

  • Phil Zvonicek in Los Angeles, California 42 months ago
I have an interview tomorrow with Indy Mac and I was told to be prepared for a pre-testing and to figure about 2 hours for the whole interview/ pre-testing process. My interview is for an underwriting position. Are there any people out there that have worked for Indy Mac or that are currently working for Indy Mac ? I must admit I am a tad bit nervous. How difficult is the test ? How is the overall atmosphere at Indy Mac ? How is their pay ? Anything that anyone can tell me will be ever so highly appreciated. Thank you all

They have just called mandatory meetings for all ops staff today. These meetings are staggered throughout the day and we're pretty sure that some people are getting canned. I cant work or concentrate on anything, worried about losing my job. How do they expect us to even work today?? They send out a very cold "mandatory meeting" email this morning, with no explanation; just a time and a place. We are all just left to guess. Oh and the CEO in Pasadena is on vaca all this week also, coincidence? Not likely..... What does everyone think??? Meetings for staff start in half an hour!

I used to work for Indymac. The atmosphere is very stressful. They are trying to save money by laying off people, but instead making others work more. I and several of my coworkers had to do our job plus a job I never learned to do from other department! It pays less, I never applied for it, was never interested. They just put the files on our desks telling us to do it. Management is very pushy, keeps you on your toes all the time. Always letting you know that they are overstaffed (!). Other uw's were getting write ups for staying and working late even though uw's were short staffed too and... People getting transferred to other lower paying job depts just to keep their job. Pay increase is on freeze, benefits are being cut.. It's crazy!! Don't even bother applying, you'll save yourself much stress and headache by choosing somebody else!

The comp plan is a joke. They have existing (what's left of them) AE's on a base. Trying to bring on fresh meat with no base. You have to compete internally for brokers as well as externally. They will dangle all sorts of carrots in front of you to stay, or try to do well. All the time just benefiting the inside area manager. They will tell you this is the best company left in the Alt A business. That is like being the skinniest person on a fat farm. Pass on this one. I know, I used to work there.

IndyMac is full of complete morons. Their recruiter Clif Tang acts like he is on meth. If you apply to IndyMac you might have the unfortunate experience of speaking to him. He is a worm who has no backbone. IndyMac makes new hires take a "test" that takes 1hr+. I interviewed with the management in San Ramon and have never been less impressed by their SVP's such as Susan Berkolder. The way that they treat people is ridiculous. Another company with executives who are too good and too smart for new hires. I flat out told them I'd never work with them regardless of pay.

Every business has it's own style. What is the office environment and culture like at Indymac Bank? Are people dressed in business casual, jeans and t-shirts, or full-on suits? Do folks get together for Friday happy hours and friendly get-togethers? What is a typical day in the life of an employee at Indymac Bank?
