Clinical Staff Registered Nurse, Kaiser Permanente - July 21, 2014
This specialty, which primarily consists of caring for HIV/AIDS patients, in addition to other infectious diseases both common and uncommon. The patient care demands are high and unique because this is an under-served community whom has been negatively labeled by society. I did extensive research in the nurses role in HIV/AIDS care and worked towards completing national certification for working with HIV/AIDS patients. There were inappropriate human resources to fully meet the needs of this patient population, thus making the role very challenging. In addition, the ID nurse was forced to become the primary nurse of Dermatology simultaneously creating a dangerously unsafe environment for the nurse. The role as ID nurse was very fulfilling, as I was able to help many people across all walks of life.
