The Interamerican College of Physicians and Surgeons (ICPS) founded the National Hispanic Youth Initiative in Health, Biomedical Research, and Policy Development Program (NHYI) in 1988. The NHYI was developed in response to the crisis in Hispanic healthcare and scientific manpower and the need to increase the number of Hispanic health professionals – more... and scientist by motivating and preparing Hispanic youth to remain in the academic pipeline. The program was established in collaboration with Hispanic Medical societies, academic institutions, and the Upjohn Company.
