Executive Administrative Assistant, New York, NY - May 8, 2012
I was a sales assistant, typist, receptionist, and general office assistant. My typical day involved answering the phones, typing, filing, faxing, writing orders, handling accounts receivable, accounts payable, accounting, setting up appointments for the carpenters to install shades and work on jobs within the tri-state area, etc. My typical work schedule was 6 days a week; mon-fri being roughly 13 hours a day, but nonetheless being underpaid for the most part. At times I would work nearly 60 hours a week. The hardest part of the job is keeping up with everything at times and handling the boss' pressure when you are just one person doing 5,000 things daily. The most enjoyable part of the job would be that I learned a lot about myself and the business and I am more educated professionally. The company, though, was on a downslide, so I was laid off along with a few other people, due to costs.
