Good customers, negative management
Administrative Assistant/Customer Service (Former Employee), Upland, CA – May 16, 2013
Pros: friendly customers, easy duties.
Cons: hostile environment
Helping customers with orders was what got me through my day. My duties were basic data entry and not as challenging as I would prefer. Majority of the co-workers were pleasant however the owners and office manager were very negative and did NOT treat employees with respect. Overall was a stressful position due to the way the owners talked to the employees. – more... At one time even threatened physical harm to a manager for a minor error. This is only at this particular location and not in any way infers that all franchises treat their employees in this manner. I unfortunately found this position to be a negative experience for what was actually an easy job in regards to duties. – less

Sales Commission Based Job
Route Sales Manager (Former Employee), Pembroke Park, FL – January 25, 2013
Pros: good pay, self-supervision, on the road most of the day.
Cons: long hours, heavy lifiting.
In the morning, you load your truck so stock is full and varies,(50-150 Batteries) . The day consist of running a route to different vendors and dealers who carry our brand. You replensh stock, assist dealer with product knowledge, accept payments, and load junk batteries at each stop. At the end of the day you unload your truck, get it counted, washed, – more... and parked. You then run payments, inventory reports and sales reports consistent with your day.
I learned alot of sales techniques and pitches. Also I learned alot about the automotive maintenance industry. I learned self-supervision and completing my job successfully without micromanagement.
The two hardest things about the job are the hours, and heavy lifting all day.
Co-workers are great. Friendly, energetic and understanding.
The most enjoyable part of the job is getting to know the area of the the route you run. Talking to different people and visiting the hundreds of vendors on one specific route. – less

Strong culture but poor compensation
Team Member (Current Employee), Dallas, TX – January 13, 2013
Interstate's approach to compensation is honest but definitely lower than other similar positions in the industry. Bonuses and raises are completed yearly however average around 3%.
Company culture is unique. They claim to be open to change and new ideas however my boss told me day one on the job to keep my head down, mouth shut and pay homage to the – more... Interstate system. It was the best advice I could have received to ensure success in my time here.
Management is a tricky topic. Outwardly, Interstate management seems supportive and open to new ideas. In reality, many managers do not "have your back" and lack successful management skills.
Consistency is rewarded. If you do mediocre work and deliver daily, you are more rewarded than going above and beyond. Once you put in that extra effort on a project, it is expected that you will do so from there forward. – less

Route Sales Manager (Former Employee), Syracuse NY – November 17, 2012
Pros: happy co-workers
Cons: commision pay
To be as productive in route sales as can be. Seek out new customers and maintain existing customers stock. Hardest requirement of job was the sometime adverse weather conditions.

Wonderful company
Senior Tax Accountant (Former Employee), Dallas, TX – November 9, 2012
Pros: culture, people
Cons: not many, grew tired of what i was doing and just had to move on
I loved working for Interstate. I just got to a point where I wanted a change in my career, and there wasn't anything there at the time for me. The people, management, etc. are all great. The culture is great. It is a Christian company, and many resources are available to you to grow personally and professionally.

It was basically a start off job, I have a family to take care of so a real job is much needed now
Stocker (Former Employee), Beaumont, TX – November 5, 2012
I learned how to interact with others as a team, because Im use to working alone, the managers alot of the time seems to have favorites, the hardest part at the beginning is when it got busy, I got use to it after a while, I am a fast learner, I enjoyed the work all around round, because at the end of the day it felt good to be a working man

International Logistics Supervisor (Former Employee), Dallas, TX – October 8, 2012
Pros: lots of activities, family oriented
Cons: hr team need some development, but in the works
Most people that work at Interstate Batteries have been there for years, they are like family. People care about each other and truly show their appreciation and desire to help you grow. Even if you are a newbie they have no problem in allowing the new addition to feel like they are part of their great family.,

Good place to work for Really all around.
Warehouse Manager (Former Employee), Jacksonville, Fl – October 5, 2012
Pros: great work environment
Cons: advancement
I would come in in the morning and do the inventory on our route trucks so they could begin their day. Then i would sort the pallets from the day before. Then weigh them, tag them, and put them away. Then we would receive our inventory truck. I would unload then load the truck then do the paperwork. After checking the new inventory we would place it – more... on the shelves. Then we would start on our daily task. Then end the day the same way we started. – less
