I enjoyed having the autonomy to create a business plan to work with consultants to increase insurance sales in the region. The environment was conducive to growing business, with support from region leadership.
Financial Consultant (Former Employee) – Toronto, ON – January 14, 2018
Commission-based. Work smart and work hard and you can earn a lot. You have to fish for clients, so one should be prepared to do step out of your comfort zone to secure meetings (sometimes with complete strangers) and then close the deal.
Business Development Coordinator (Former Employee) – Toronto, ON – January 6, 2018
It was a different day every day - submitting clients contributions, switching clients portfolios around, calendar management, managing the team, expenses. I learned how to manage a team and that communication, directions are very important. My manager was fantastic - very clear, easy going, flexible and allowed me to help with the business. Workplace culture was easy going, flexible, exciting. Most difficult part of the job was leaving the position. The most enjoyable part of the job was interacting with clients and able to help with their portfolios.
Financial Advisor (Former Employee) – Grimsby, ON – January 5, 2018
Long Hours and Low pay unless you're a great financial advisor and can really sell. be prepared to work your guts out. The key to success is to hit the really high net worth clients. worked there for 3 years.
Financial Consultant (Current Employee) – Ottawa, ON – December 28, 2017
Consultants are independent contractors who work in a 100% commissioned based environment. You must be a motivated self-starter who is able to manage all aspects of operating a financial planning practice. Investors Group offers technical support & expertise through Advanced Financial Planning at Head office, but management at the Region office level is often hit and miss. Region Managers & Division Directors are often "promoted" from the consultant ranks, based on performance, rather than on their ability to manage, mentor, support or supervise other people. The earning potential is unlimited, but comes with associated costs and requirement to commit to building a successful practice over time.
Abilty to set hours, work schedule, etc.
Long hours, must be self-starter & self-movtivated, Commission only
Specialist (Former Employee) – ON – December 24, 2017
Experienced racism and imicro aggression in my close to a decade there, Finally had a enough and complained and suffered repercussions, High priced poor performing products that are not good for the public and the management and employees don't invest in themselves ,They will hold IGM stock themselves and sell the mediocre funds to their friends and family. Positive alot of prizes given out for manipulating the public ie. Trips tvs ipads sporting events., Who do you think pays for this. The unsuspecting naive consumer. Invest with your top 6 bank or a unbias independent advisor and stay far away from IG.
Worked here for 3 years. It's a good company to be in. There is an office cafeteria that offers good food. The people in management are very approachable and down to earth. We have benefits like pension and health.
Investors Group has been graced with an ability to select the right individuals as managers. These managers build strong foundations with their work force, which in turn builds productivity. They are not just using cookie cutter ideas, they actually merge their management styles with the needs of their subordinates.
Full commission and massive pressure to sell to family
Consultant (Former Employee) – Peterborough, ON – December 14, 2017
the pressure to push mutual funds upon your family is unreal, additionally I was hired with the pretence that I could start the business at my pace. When I lagged a month in performance due to my wife and son both being hospitalised, I was threatened to be let go. This I found unacceptable and it changed my perspective of the company.
Financial Consultant (Former Employee) – Calgary, AB – December 7, 2017
