Providing support to people with developmental disabilities with dedication.
IRI (formerly Independence Residences, Inc.) is an award-winning, Queens-based nonprofit devoted to improving the lives of people with developmental disabilities. IRI’s 24-hour, 7-day a week operation ensures that people lead full, rewarding lives with dignity. Founded in 1984 by parents concerned for the well-being of their children, IRI has earned a reputation as a place of opportunity. IRI emboldens individuals to reach for their dreams whether that includes finding employment, keeping healthy, securing their first apartment, or learning a new skill. Independences Residences, Inc. partners with each individual and their family to make it happen. Pioneered to meet the complex and changing needs of people with disabilities, IRI continues to innovate itself to ensure their needs are met with care and urgency. Recently, IRI affiliated with Queens Parent Resource Center (QPRC), another nonprofit also dedicated to serving people with disabilities. Together, IRI and QPRC transform the lives of more than 2,000 people with developmental disabilities each year. – less
