The Independent Transportation Network of Greater Boston’s (ITNGB) mission is to provide community-based, community-supported, economically viable and consumer-oriented quality transportation service for seniors and adults with visual impairments.
Unlike public transportation services, ITNGB provides “door through door” service. Drivers will help members with stairs, packages, and medical equipment such as a walker or oxygen tank from inside their home. Drivers are trained not only in gerontology and customer service, but also in maintaining upbeat conversations with members. This is important since we define ourselves as a healthy living service and as part of the wellness network of services that promote active, fulfilled lives for this population segment. Conversing with members helps reduce their social isolation so critical to good health. Drivers must also pass CORI and reference checks. – less
