My experience with Jack Cooper has been okay. People are great, culture is great. Management is secretive - hard to approach. Management does not lead by example. The system that Jack Cooper uses is very out of date and could use some upgrading.

The union environment is tough. Also the management here throw you under the bus constantly , because they fail to do what is asked of them. Some of the most shady people I have ever met. Wouldn't recomend since little room for advancement and no job security.

Great Job but no room for advancement
Shop Administrator (Former Employee) –  IndianaJuly 17, 2016
The employees & management staff are great to work with. It is a great place to work but there is not much room for advancement unless you are in management. The non-union employees don't have a lot of job security but the union employees do. Raises are not annually. I did learn a lot in different aspects of the company.
Pros
Free health insurance
Cons
raises not annually

Mechanic (Former Employee) –  MissouriJuly 13, 2016
They will say anything to get you in the door to start working whether it be a promise location that is closer to your home only to find out there is no such location so you'll be working an hour away management is a complete mess complete micro management system going on hostile work environment between day shift and night shift and cases have been so bad the police were almost involved you will have absolutely no life if you have a family forget about them you will have to work 10 to 12 hour days Monday through Friday and you will always have to work every Saturday until you are the number one seniority man the paid holidays forget Forget about them I was told from my supervisor when I asked and he said that you were not guaranteed any holidays off if they are dispatching cars and you have to be there the pay and benefits were great but not enough to keep working in the harsh harassment hostile environment nepotism runs heavily in this employer the Wentzville location you as starting off will have to work nights which which also means you'll work mornings on Saturdays so depending on how far you live from your job you'll end up working 10 hours on Friday leaving at nine to turn around to leave at 5:30 in the morning to go back to work on Saturday
Pros
Pay, benefits
Cons
Working hours, Hostile work environment, micromanagement, no family life

Arlington needs new management!!!
Car hauler (Current Employee) –  Arlington, TXJuly 5, 2016
They deny your pay based on what you are entitled with your union contract. They make up bogus excuses to keep from paying you. Their equipment is a safety hazard. It is always breaking down even after it has come out of the shop. The trailers are falling apart and damages equipment then they try to blame the driver. DOT needs to visit them as they try to send the trucks off their lot!!
Pros
Can go to other terminals to get loads and equipment fixed right
Cons

Always on edge.
Management (Former Employee) –  MichiganMarch 14, 2016
Great pay and benefits. That's about it. Union environment that management is scared to confront. Aging Fleet that causes numerous maintenance issues. Many facilities are very old and outdated that corporate management refuses to do anything about.executive management of the company is highly disorganized and completely out of touch with reality and the operations of their shops. Reckless spending out of control budget and no accountability for their actions. Generally shop management takes the full blame for the inadequacies of Senior Management. Senior Management even gossips and talks amongst themselves. What really stinks about the whole situation is that there are several outstanding employees of this company and they get taken advantage of and have little to no hope or chance for advancement. unrealistic goals and expectations of the shop on the maintenance side. Software to run the maintenance of the terminals is extremely dated and inefficient. The majority of the day is spent doing redundant paperwork because the computer system is so old and out dated. they will hire and fire management based off personal reasons as much or more than job performance related issues. This company is micromanaging at its best. The company makes numerous promises and shows no effort to follow through with them. If you have a family or social life you can pretty much kiss them goodbye. You will go weeks and even months without a day off. There is so much potential for this company and Senior Management is still stuck in the Stone Age.
Pros
decent salary and great benefits
Cons
micromanaging Senior Management

Management resentfull of union. Reprimands, Suspensions, Discharges are the result
Truck Driver (OTR) (Former Employee) –  Fairfax, VAJanuary 31, 2016
The pay and benefits are above average, but the local terminals will remind you that you are expendable at any time. Trucks are old and worn out. As are the facilities and management. There is a us versus them presence prevalent there. "File a grievance if ya dont like it "!! Is a common phrase there. There is a general feeling of a slow death occurring, as Teamster car haul companies lose more and more freight.
Pros

Cons
Vinditive management, old equipment, no direct deposit

show up to work and get prepared for whatever weather for the day. we work outside all day. i learned that sometimes you have to bite the bullet and just do what you gotta do to get the job done. the management was professional for the most part and treated me well. the co workers were an assortment of personalities, some good some bad, but i never had a real problem with anyone. it was a physical job for the most part, so you had to be in shape to get the job done. the most enjoyable part of the job was the environment. you didnt have to worry about offending anyone, because everyone was pretty relaxed.
Pros
long breaks, good people.

Car Hauler (Former Employee) –  Houston, TXOctober 13, 2015
Loading and Unloading vehicles for a Car Carrier. Transporting deliveries locally and over the road. Maintain a daily, legible D.O.T. log book. Inspect vehicles and report any defects or damages. Inspect the truck for defects and safe operating condition before, during and after trips. I've learned to navigate routes to guarantee incident free, on time deliveries. I know how to watch out for low bridges, read signs for difference weight limit on certain roads, scales with height and weight. Management was rough in the begin, but improved when some of management retired. My co-workers were very helpful, loyal, and like making money. Hardest part of the job, was keeping the job. We had to keep damages down. If you didn't pay attention you could destroy a new vehicle very easy, or destroy a unit setting the height by bring a deck down to close to the unit. The most enjoyable part of the job was traveling, visiting difference cities and meeting people. The money wasn't bad either
