James Avery has crafted himself quite a successful enterprise. James Avery Craftsman is a top jewelry designer, manufacturer, and retailer in the US, mostly throughout the southern states. Its jewelry collection, numbering some 1,100 designs and 14,000 items made in sterling silver, 14-, and 18-karat yellow and white gold, and gemstones, is sold through about 200 independent retailers and more than 60 of its own stores mostly in Texas, but also in Colorado, Georgia, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Alabama. James Avery also sells its products through a catalog and via the Internet. The company got its start in 1954 when James Avery set up shop in a two-car garage with about $250 in capital.
James Avery distinguishes itself from other jewelry producers by designing, creating, marketing, and selling its own jewelry line from its headquarters in Kerrville, Texas, as well as through a handful of other jewelry workshops located throughout the Texas Hill Country.
At a time when many manufacturers and retailers were recovering from the downturn in the economy, James Avery in 2010 was busy breaking ground. It added or relocated about a dozen of its stores. Most of the jewelry seller's expansion activity was in its home state of Texas. The company, however, further extended its retail operations by opening up a store in Arkansas, adding to its growing footprint in the southern US.
Namesake founder James Avery stepped down in 2007; today his sons Chris (president and CEO) and Paul (EVP) run the business. – less
