The Volunteer and Food Coordinator is a dynamic position within the well known JF&CS Family Table, the largest kosher food pantry in New England. This position is responsible for the acquisition and distribution of food, as well as for the recruitment, training, and coordination of the program's volunteers. The food pantry serves approximately 400 families on a monthly basis. This position is full time and works across two pantry sites in Waltham and Marblehead.
Essential Job Functions:
Food Acquisition and Inventory Management - Ensure an adequate food supply by managing inventory and acquiring food in accordance with monthly distribution cycle, within designated budget and nutritional guidelines, and also maximizing free sources of food.
Fiscal Management - Work within food budget to acquire adequate levels of food, keeping track of expenses and planning ahead for anticipated monthly food expenses.
Food Distribution - Manage all preparations related to three monthly food distributions.
Volunteer Coordination - Organize 250 volunteers each month for the three monthly food distributions including overseeing orientation, ensuring appropriate and agreeable task assignment, promoting positive interactions with other volunteers and clients, and supervising quality of work.
Community Outreach - Maintain current knowledge about the issues related to hunger in order to facilitate community outreach and education workshops in coordination with the volunteer community. Use relatable and engaging activities to promote hunger awareness during workshops.
Development - Maintain relationships with food and monetary donors including timely acknowledgement of donations, learning and carrying out needs of donors, and maintaining regular contact with donors.
- Experience with organizing and managing volunteers.
- Experience with inventory management and processes. Food inventory management a plus.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Positive attitude and a team player.
- Ability to lift and stack multiple 30 lb. boxes.
- Proficient in Microsoft office suite, and using online based applications.
- Knowledge of Jewish holidays and customs, kosher dietary laws, and familiarity with the local Jewish community.
