John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital was founded in 1966 by a group of physicians including Dr. Carreon, who later had one of the hospital's cross streets named in his honor. Originally called Indio Community Hospital, the hospital grew from a 112-bed hospital to the 145-bed John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital of today.

The 145-bed acute care hospital has provided medical care to residents in the Central/Eastern Coachella Valley since 1966. The hospital offers a 24-hour Emergency Room and a daily Express Care Center, an Arthritis Institute, neurosurgery and spine care services, orthopedic, general and vascular surgical services, cardiac and vascular care including a cardiac catheterization lab, urology services offering surgical treatments for post-prostectomy patients, erectile dysfunction, and male and female incontinence, women's and maternity/obstetrical services and prenatal classes and education, a family centered pediatric unit including an asthma program, gastrointestinal/endoscopy services, radiology/diagnostic imaging services including interventional radiology and mammography services, senior and community outreach and education, volunteer services, and a wide range of other inpatient and outpatient services. In October 2004, the hospital expanded its women's unit and now offers LDRPs (private labor rooms) and additional post partum rooms for mother and baby. In August of 2002, the hospital opened a two-story tower with a 16-bed intensive care unit and 24-bed medical surgical unit. JFK Memorial Hospital is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, the nation's oldest and largest hospital accreditation agency.
